Legacies Season 3 Episode 2 Preview: The Desperate Mission to Save Rafael!

Legacies is finally back!

The beloved drama returned to The CW on Thursday with Legacies Season 3 Episode 1, but all eyes are on Legacies Season 3 Episode 2, which might find us saying goodbye to a beloved character.

The CW dropped a wild promo for the episode, which shows the Super Squad banding together to save Rafael, who appears to be dying.

Even worse, Rafael goes on the run as everyone rallies to save his life.

“Goodbyes Sure Do Suck” is the name of the episode. Make of that what you will.

The network has also revealed a synopsis that gives us a hint about what’s on tap.

FINDING PEACE — The Super Squad pull out all the stops when they learn some devastating news involving one of their own.

Alaric (Matthew Davis) turns to Sheriff Mac (Bianca Kajlich) for help getting some timely affairs in order.

Danielle Rose Russell, Aria Shahghasemi, Jenny Boyd, Quincy Fouse, Peyton Alex Smith, Chris Lee and Ben Levin also star. Eric Dean Seaton directed the episode written by Benjamin Raab & Deric A. Hughes (#302). Original airdate 1/28/2021.

It’s certainly a dark storyline, darker than what we got on Legacies Season 3 Episode 1, which found Rafael being deemed worthy and an ancestor of King Arthur.

If you watch Legacies online, you know Raf hasn’t been given the best storylines to work with, so hopefully, this will be the start of more exciting storylines for him, assuming the show doesn’t kill him off.

The good news is that Hope is back in full force, and she will go to any lengths necessary to save Landon’s brother.

The more precarious part of the synopsis involves Alaric getting some “timely affairs” in order.

This will bring Sheriff Mac back into the fold, which is a good thing. Have a look at the promo:

What are your thoughts on the photos, promo, and synopsis?

Newsom Administration Won’t Disclose Key Covid-19 Shutdown Data, According to Report

California on Monday recorded by far the highest number of Covid-19 deaths it has seen over the course of the pandemic. But the shocking loss of 764 lives may not have been the biggest virus-related news in the state. Nor was the generally better news on Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations.

On Friday, the Associated Press published a bombshell story alleging that Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration had been keeping secret the data calculations by which it has justified one of the country’s longest and most stringent lockdowns.

Newsom announced a regional approach to shutdowns as cases spiked after Thanksgiving. It divided the state into five regions and mandated shutdowns if a region’s ICU capacity fell below 15%. Most of the state was quickly judged to be below that threshold.

But that threshold was not as clear as it seemed. Newsom has long said there would be an “equity component” factored into reopenings to account for for how regions did in relation to their traditionally underserved populations.

State health officials factored in not how many ICU beds were available, but how many were actually staffed and available to adults infected with Covid-19 — a good number of ICU beds were NICU, or set up for children.

Adding to the confusion, said the AP report, “the state uses a weighted percentage to determine ICU capacity. COVID-19 patients tend to need longer care, penalizing regions like Southern California that have a higher proportion.”

These factors were made public piecemeal by the administration, adding to the confusion and suspicion already engendered by the chaos of a pandemic.

Asked by Deadline if he was clear how the regional ICU percentages were determined, LA County Chief Science Officer Paul Simon said, “I can’t really comment. I haven’t seen the news. I’m not really sure what considerations were made in that threshold.”

He is not alone.

Per AP:

At the start of last week, no regions appeared unlikely to have the stay-at-home order lifted soon because their capacity was well below 15%. But within a day, the state announced it was lifting the order for the 13-county Greater Sacramento area.

Suddenly, outdoor dining and worship services were OK again, hair and nail salons and other businesses could reopen, and retailers could have more shoppers inside.

Local officials and businesses were caught off guard. State officials did not describe their reasoning other than to say it was based on a projection for ICU capacity.

In fact, on Friday the state’s regional shutdown map listed the Sacramento region at just 9% ICU capacity. It may have fallen since the week before, but how those numbers are arrived at was still a mystery.

That’s confounding, since Newsom has said throughout the pandemic that he was committed to transparency and making decisions based on data.

Even more confounding was the response reportedly given to AP by Department of Public Health spokeswoman Ali Bay. “At the moment the projections are not being shared publicly,” she said in an email.

Kate Folmar, spokesperson for the California Health and Human Services Agency told AP the administration is committed to transparency, providing twice-weekly updates on the regional shutdowns.

For the record, Governor Gavin Newsom has not given one of his pandemic updates. His chief Covid lieutenant, HHS Secretary Mark Ghaly, did take questions from reporters on Tuesday, but that was it. Newsom last answered reporters’ questions at an LA-area Covid event last Friday. There were no major updates given at that event about regional shutdowns.

HHS spokesperson Folmar said the regional projected ICU capacity numbers are based on multiple variables including available beds and staffing that change regularly.

“These fluid, on-the-ground conditions cannot be boiled down to a single data point — and to do so would mislead and create greater uncertainty for Californians,” she said in a statement.

Mira Furlan Dies: Lost and Babylon 5 Actress Was 65

Mira Furlan, best known for her roles on Babylon 5 and Lost, has died.

She was 65 years old.

The sad news broke on Furlan’s Twitter account on Thursday.

Babylon 5 creator J. Michael Straczynski paid tribute to the star later that night via Twitter.

“It is a night of great sadness, for our friend and comrade had gone down the road where we cannot reach her,” he said.

“But as with all things, we will catch up with her in time, and I believe she will have many stories to tell us, and many new roles to share with the universe.”

While a cause of death has yet not been revealed, Straczynski shared that the cast and crew of Babylon 5 had “known for some time now that Mira’s health was fading.”

“We kept hoping that she would improve,” he wrote. “In a group email sent to the cast a while back, I heard that she might be improving.”

Straczynski revealed that he subsequently got a call from Babylon 5’s Peter Jurasik that Furlan’s husband, director Goran Gajić, was “bringing her home.”

“Mira was a good and kind woman, a stunningly talented performer, and a friend to everyone in the cast and crew of ‘Babylon 5,’ and we are all devastated by the news,” he wrote.

“The cast members with whom she was especially close since the show’s end will need room to process this moment, so please be gentle if they are unresponsive for a time.”

“We have been down this road too often, and it only gets harder.”

Furlan was born in the former Yugoslavia, garnering a string of stage roles. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1991 and went on to star on Babylon 5 in the role of Delenn, a role she held for all five seasons of the show.

The actress is also well-known for playing Danielle Rousseau on the ABC drama series, Lost.

Her role was shrouded in secrecy, with fans waiting on tenterhooks to find out more about her character as the series progressed.

She is survived by Gajić and their son, Marko Lav Gajić.

May she rest in peace.

Game of Thrones: Dunk and Egg Prequel in the Works at HBO

One spinoff of Game of Thrones is not enough for HBO.

The premium cabler is reportedly developing a prequel based on George R.R. Martin’s novellas about Dunk (aka Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (Aegon V Targaryen).

Variety first reported the exciting news, but there has been no official comment from HBO.

It is the third spinoff to land at HBO since the hit original series ended its eight-season run in 2019.

House of the Dragon nabbed a formal series order last year and will follow the Targaryen family, as told in another of Martin’s novels.

However, the cast only took shape in recent months, with Matt Smith (Doctor Who) playing Prince Daemon Targaryen and Paddy Considine (The Outsider) as King Viserys.

Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) is also on board as Alicent Hightower, the Hand of the King’s daughter, and Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, King Viserys’ eldest child.

The project comes from Martin and Ryan J. Condal. Miguel Sapochnik, who directed several episodes of GOT.

HBO officially nixed another spinoff in 2019, which had already filmed a pilot.

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour,” reads the official logline for the Jane Goldman penned pilot.

“From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’s history to the true origin of the White Walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend, only one thing is for sure: It’s not the story we think we know.”

The cast of the pilot included Naomi Watts, Miranda Richardson, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, Sheila Atim, Ivanno Jeremiah, Georgie Henley, Alex Sharp, and Toby Regbo.

While the network didn’t shed light on the decision to nix the spinoff, it is thought that the network was not impressed with the finished product.

HBO Max Acquires Israeli Series ‘Uri And Ella’

EXCLUSIVE: HBO Max has taken U.S. streaming rights to praised Hot series Uri and Ella.

Starring Shlomo Baraba and Dina Senderson, the 11-episode Israeli series will be available on the WarnerMedia streaming service this spring.

The deal was brokered by Hadas Mozes, co-founder and head of international at Israel-based ADD Content Agency. Mozes also brokered the deal with HBO for Hot’s Euphoria, based on the acclaimed Israeli series. Mozes serves as an executive producer on the A24-produced Emmy-winning U.S. series starring Zendaya and created/exec produced by Sam Levinson, which also streams on HBO Max.

“We are proud and excited that another one of Hot’s original series was sold to HBO Max, and soon Uri and Ella will appear on television screens across the U.S.,” said Nadav Hanin, VP Content and Innovation at Hot. “This is yet another breakthrough for the Israeli TV industry, and for Hot in particular, with over 120 formats sold to foreign markets in only a few years.”

Created by Senderson, Ofer Seker and Yuval Shafferman, Uri and Ella is an unconventional romantic comedy-drama about loss, madness, rich-people problems and the one form of love that is truly unconditional – the love between a father and his daughter.

The show tells the story of Uri (Baraba) and his daughter Ella (Senderson) following the passing of Tami, her mother. Uri, a musician, and a cultural icon, is being thrown into singlehood at the confusing age of 60; Ella, an already out-of-place kid, is being thrown into a vacuum. Now that the most painful period of grief is behind them, all the possibilities will be open to them, or so they thought. A year after Tami’s death, we embark on a funny, moving and emotional journey with Uri and Ella, and along the way meet the collection of characters that surrounds them.

The cast also includes Pablo Rosenberg as Zuki, a famous and colorful chef who knows how to live right and slowly finds himself entangled in the lives of his customers Uri and Ella; Liron Vaisman as Kineret, a funny, honest woman with no inhibitions who storms into their lives; Gal Toren as Shmulik, Ella’s older brother, and Uri and Tami’s son and a guitarist in his dad’s band; and Abigail Kovari as Zohar, Ella’s flighty, pothead friend, who for some reason won’t leave their house.

Shafferman directed all 11 episodes. The series is produced by Yoav Gross Productions.

Uri and Ella, which originally aired on Hot, won six Television Academy Awards in Israel, including Outstanding Drama Series, and has received numerous accolades throughout its run.

At one point, there was a U.S. version of the series in the works.
