Days of Our Lives Review for the Week of 2-27-23: Sarah’s News Wasn’t The Biggest Surprise In Salem

Surprise! (NOT!) Sarah is the latest Salemite to mistake pregnancy for the flu.

Doctors are no less immune to accidental pregnancies than anyone else, but why didn’t Sarah and Xander use birth control? And why does it never occur to anyone that they might be pregnant?

Sarah’s pregnancy on Days of Our Lives during the week of 2-27-23 wasn’t shocking, but the aftermath was. Many fans were bracing themselves for a who’s-the-daddy story, but Sarah told Rex immediately that the baby was Xander’s.

Thank goodness! While it would be ridiculous for Sarah to learn she was pregnant with Rex’s baby days after they slept together, reality never gets in the way on Days of Our Lives; Sarah could be confused about who the father was.

Sarah also didn’t make the annoying but obvious decision to stay with Xander for the baby’s sake, as so many women do on Days of Our Lives. I was worried that she might decide that since the divorce didn’t go through and she was pregnant with Xander’s child, she might as well stay married “for the baby’s sake.”

Fortunately, Sarah is stronger than that. Her decision to leave town without telling Xander she’s pregnant isn’t great, but at least it’s not the same old thing we usually get with these accidental pregnancy stories.

Where does this story go from here? Sarah’s leaving town can’t be the end of it; that would be too easy.

Eventually, Xander has to find out about his baby. That’s how these things go. Sarah’s plan is probably to return to Salem after the baby is born and claim it’s Rex’s.

That’s essentially what she did when she was pregnant with Eric’s baby and pretended Xander was the father. Sarah herself admitted that was a disaster; let’s not have a repeat.

Xander might also decide to go to Chicago to try to woo Sarah back. This stalkerish move won’t win him points with Sarah, but it’ll inevitably lead to the discovery that she’s not romantically involved with Rex AND that she’s pregnant.

Another way Xander might learn about the pregnancy is through Leo.

Jack: You can run the paper, for now, any way you wish. You have that freedom just like I did. Just know that Jennifer and I spent decades building trust with the public. I would hate to see that all wasted by turning the paper into a cheap tabloid.
Leo: Oh, please. Everyone knows tabloids sell. No one was reading your stuffy old newspaper.

While I don’t love the idea of Leo digging up all the dirt that’s fit to print, the Lady Whistleblower column serves its purpose. Leo’s already ruined Alex’s chance to become the CEO of Titan (more about that in a minute!). He could easily expose Sarah’s secret to embarrass her.

If he does, it’ll probably be an effort to help Gwen and Xander get together that blows up in his face! Ironically, the same thing happened years ago when Jack looked into who Steve’s brother was so that he could interfere with Steve and Kayla, only to find out that the mystery man was himself!

Jack and Jennifer told Julie to leave Gwen and Xander alone, threw on some leis, and left town to attend to their local paper in Boston. It felt like an ending for these two, but will they return?

I can’t imagine Gwen getting to run the paper permanently when she got it via blackmailing Jennifer. Without Jennifer to keep an eye on her, Julie might disregard her wishes and go after Gwen.

Jack and Jennifer had better be back for visits regardless of what happens with the Spectator! They’re a legacy couple, right up there with Steve/Kayla and John/Marlena. They can’t ride off into the sunset and never be seen again.

I also wish JJ would return to Salem and work with Julie to get his father’s paper back.

JJ’s personality was always more suited to investigative reporting than the other things the writers had him doing, as was Nicole’s. It would be awesome if the two rescued the paper, fired Leo, and continued Jack’s legacy.

This is likely a pipe dream, but it’s a good one!

Elsewhere, an off-screen Victor made Maggie CEO after learning from Leo that Alex slept with two women at once and contributed to the end of Allie and Chanel’s marriage. What?

It’s jarring, to say the least, that Victor is presumably healthy enough to travel to parts unknown by himself when John Aniston passed away after several years where he didn’t do more than sit in a chair for a scene or two.

Leaving that aside, this decision makes no sense. Since when does Victor champion women’s rights to the point that he’d fire Alex because he thinks his sexual exploits might appear misogynistic?

Victor’s behavior is even more problematic than Alex’s. He always calls women derogatory names, and he’s had plenty of affairs — and in his villain days, he attempted to rape Kimberly. People who would boycott Titan because of perceived misogyny probably have already done so.

It’s great that Victor has appointed the first female CEO to counter that image, but Maggie isn’t the best choice.

Maggie: Everyone says I have good instincts.
Alex: But do you have killer instincts? That’s what’s really needed in this business.
Maggie: How’s this for killer instincts? You’re fired.

She’s undoubtedly capable despite her sweet persona. Farms and restaurants might not be the same type of business as Titan Industries. Still, she’s more than proven her business acumen and determination to succeed despite the odds against her.

However, everyone knows she’s Victor’s wife, and many people will think she’s a token woman serving as Victor’s mouthpiece. She’s not, so it doesn’t matter what those people think. But if Victor wants to reform the company’s reputation regarding feminism, this appointment is a terrible idea!

I was hoping Philip was on his way back — that would have been a great twist. But since the ball has started rolling on revealing that he’s alive, Philip could pop up later, ready to take the reins from Maggie.

I also don’t like the idea of Alex’s sex life being labeled as inappropriate because he slept with two women at once. It felt somewhat homophobic, which isn’t Victor — he kicked out that investor who wanted him to stop supporting Will and Sonny’s wedding.

And Victor wasn’t concerned when Alex was sexually harassing Stephanie, which is far worse than a consensual sexual relationship that some people don’t approve of.

Things have gotten crazy at Dimera Enterprises, with Gabi agreeing to stay married to Li to acquire his shares.

Did Li sign the shares over or merely pledge to do so? He keeps saying that he gave Gabi his shares, so she has to do what he wants, but if the transfer is a done deal, there’s no reason she has to put up with this.

It would be smart for Li to dangle the promise of the share transfer instead, but he’s not the most intelligent guy out there. He’s been arrested twice in the last month, and Gabi could easily double-cross him.

When are we getting to the point where she does that? Li keeps adding other conditions to the deal, and right now, he’s pushing Gabi around. That’s not Gabi’s style, and she’d better be biding her time before putting a huge revenge plan into place!

The silly Stefan brainwashing story took some surprising twists. Rolf’s latest attempt at deprogramming him was bound to go wrong since it involved a waffle iron, crock pot, and other random kitchen implements — did anyone else expect Stefan to lose his feelings for Chloe?

I expected a more significant twist than Brady and Eric ending up behind bars, which they richly deserved for this stupid scheme. Rafe was a total hypocrite since he didn’t care when Gabi did the same thing.

Chloe: You kidnapped Stefan! Did you ask me how I felt? Did you ask him?
Brady: I was desperate!
Chloe: And look where that desperation got you.
Brady: Okay, I admit I had tunnel vision. But that’s because I saw you and me at the end of the tunnel.

Chloe laid into Stefan for stalking her, but Brady did the same thing. He called at least twice in one day, leaving a voicemail claiming he would respect her need for space while doing the opposite.

Chloe should have been equally angry with Brady as she was with Stefan, if not more so. He kidnapped Stefan and forced a procedure on him that Stefan didn’t want. In what world is that less bad than Stefan calling her when she didn’t want to hear from him?

At first, Chloe seemed to reject the idea of getting back together with Brady, but she wasn’t nearly as angry as she should have been, and her main concern was Rachel not liking her.

There are more significant problems here. And since Chloe is okay with Brady doing this Li-like thing, how will she feel when she learns one day that Philip faked his death to frame Brady for a crime that didn’t exist?

Meanwhile, Wendy’s living situation felt like a set-up for a sitcom. Li decided he was moving in without asking her, and she invited Tripp to stay there when supposedly she’s with Johnny. Meanwhile, Joey constantly pushes Tripp to date Wendy, while Wendy is forever running into Johnny and Chanel.

Joey: I hope we’re not interrupting.
Johnny: Not at all. Chanel was just telling me how Allie moved to New Zealand. This isn’t what it seems like.
Wendy: I know. You and Chanel are just friends. You having drinks with her doesn’t mean anything more than Tripp moving in with me.

This scenario keeps flip-flopping between ridiculous and obnoxious, with Joey’s obsession with Tripp and Wendy competing with Wendy’s coldness toward Johnny and Chanel for the most annoying aspect.

I also wasn’t a fan of Chanel telling Johnny it was selfish for him to be upset that his twin sister left town without telling him. It’s not like Allie moved to a different part of Salem or Chicago. She took her child to New Zealand and didn’t bother telling Johnny first!

That’s cold and doubly so when Johnny is her twin. Chanel came off as petty, complaining she was the only one with a broken heart.

Sonny’s leaving town too, but at least he first said goodbye to his family. His goodbyes felt rushed; Justin and Alex got half a scene, and the purpose of Sonny’s farewell dinner appeared to be for Chad and Alex to snipe at each other over Stephanie.

Stephanie, for her part, didn’t seem to be able to speak without sounding flirty, and her scenes with Alex were inappropriate, considering that she decided to commit herself to Chad instead.

This Eric/Nicole/EJ nonsense isn’t much better. Nicole’s 25th anniversary on DAYS should have been about her, not just her relationship with Eric, even if the Jensen Ackles flashbacks were a nice touch.

More importantly, Nicole and Eric both do this thing where they move on and then change their mind when they learn the other is available. They agreed that they are bad for each other and that their attempts at romance are mostly nostalgia-driven.

Can they remember that, please? We don’t need another round of them cheating on their current partners only to break up five minutes later.

While I still think EJ and Nicole are better off as friends, I was impressed with EJ’s willingness to step back and let Nicole be with Eric. She’d better not break his heart later by choosing Eric after EJ gave her an out, and she rejected it!

EJ and Nicole’s plan isn’t great, either. Switching the spiked drinks is risky — Stefan could change them back, or an innocent person could get drugged.

At least they’re onto him. Now Nicole needs not to let Eric distract her.

Finally, the women awakened to find they were in Megan’s clutches

Megan’s ultimate goal is to resurrect Bo and keep him for herself. But what do the women have to do with this?

While this plot is as weird as the heaven stuff, it’s also more typical of Days of Our Lives. Thanks to his obsession with Marlena, Stefano did things like this for years. Now, Megan is taking over.

Vanderpump Rules: Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix Split Following Cheating Bombshell Involving Raquel Leviss

At the height of its popularity, Vanderpump Rules featured some of the most dramatic moments on reality TV.

But this latest bombshell involving Tom Sandoval, Ariana Madix, and Raquel Leviss promises to deliver some vintage VPR storylines.

TMZ stunned fans on Friday with the revelation that Tom Sandoval and Ariana Madix had split after nine years as a couple.

While the split itself is a shocker because they weathered many storms throughout their relationship on-screen, the alleged reason for their parting of ways is an utter bombshell…

According to this report from TMZ, Tom cheated on Ariana with Raquel.

Madix reportedly just found out about the supposed cheating and ended their relationship.

TMZ adds that Vanderpump Rules producers wasted no time documenting the fallout, and production is back underway.

Vanderpump Rules Season 10 kicked off on Bravo last month with its best ratings in years, and if this drama is as dramatic as we’re hearing, the numbers might grow as the season progresses.

Producers wanted the fallout footage to use ahead of the reunion because there wouldn’t be much of a reunion without that footage.

Ariana and Tom seemed as close as ever on Wednesday when the latter performed with his band.

That much has been documented on social media, but TMZ does note that the pair had some issues in their relationship for a while.

Raquel’s ex-fiance, James Kennedy, reacted to the news on Instagram.

“Hope you all feel as sick as I do. This explains everything,” he wrote while sharing the TMZ report.

Raquel and James had various ups and downs, and Raquel recently found out on-screen that James cheated on her with co-star Lala Kent at the beginning of their relationship.

The drama doesn’t stop with the Vanderpump Rules cast, and it sounds like fans will be able to watch it play out.

The trailer for Vanderpump Rules Season 10 certainly hinted Ariana and Tom’s relationship being a focal point, and fans took a particular scene to mean they were in an open relationship.

Madix was quick to shut that down, but on Friday, her social media accounts were gone.

If you watch Vanderpump Rules online, you know Raquel has been getting close to Tom Schwartz, aka the other Tom.

Katie Maloney and Schwartz split before the season premiered and, well, it’s been a complicated web of drama.

Katie blamed co-star Scheana Shay for trying to set up Raquel with Schwartz.

Until we see this insanity on-screen or any involved parties react, we can only wait for some clarity.

For now, Vanderpump Rules airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Bravo.

Star Trek: Discovery to End With Season 5 at Paramount+

The Star Trek universe is slowing down at Paramount+.

The streaming service announced Thursday that Star Trek: Discovery will end with its fifth season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, additional filming will help craft a proper conclusion for the now-final season.

The news is somewhat surprising, especially when you consider that it wasn’t always planned to be the end.

Hopefully, the fans who have spent five seasons watching the series will get a conclusive ending.

“When we first started talking about the return of Star Trek eight years ago, we never could have imagined the indelible impact Star Trek: Discovery would have,” said David Stapf, president of CBS Studios.

“The series brought back a beloved global franchise, and just like its predecessors Discovery honored Star Trek’s legacy of ‘infinite diversity in infinite combinations,’ representing the best of what we could be as humans when we celebrate our differences.”

Executive producers and co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Michelle Paradise said in a statement:

“As lifelong fans of Star Trek, it has been an immense honor and privilege to help bring Star Trek: Discovery to the world. The Trek universe means so much to so many – including us – and we couldn’t be prouder of everything Discovery has contributed to its legacy, particularly with representation.”

“If just one person sees themselves, or the possibilities for their future, in a new way because of Discovery, then we think we’d have made Gene Roddenberry very proud.”

“Of course, there would be no Discovery without Sonequa Martin-Green and the extraordinary team of artists, both in front of and behind the camera, who have brought this show to life.”

“Their passion and determination to make every episode special has been deeply inspiring; so too has their love and support for one another and their genuine love for Star Trek.”

“Discovery has truly become a family over the years – and we couldn’t be more grateful to be part of it.”

“To the fans around the world, thank you for joining us on this incredible journey. Your love for these characters and your excitement for every episode, every season, has meant the world to us.”

“We can’t wait for you to see what we’ve been working on for this final season; we appreciate your patience in the meantime and trust us when we say it’ll be worth the wait. We love you all! LLAP”

Martin-Green added: “I can hardly believe that this mind-blowing journey with Discovery is ending. I’m astoundingly blessed by God to have played Captain Michael Burnham and to have taken part in a legacy alongside an extraordinary cast, phenomenal crew and remarkable writing team.”

“To our most supportive partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+, who insisted on making television history, I’m deeply grateful. I’m also deeply grateful for the creative collaboration with our showrunners Michelle Paradise and Alex Kurtzman, as well as Olatunde Osunsanmi and the incomparable team of executive producers.”

“I will never forget how it felt to stand together as a show family, cradling the heirloom of Trek with all those from the franchise at large and with the fans.”

“The fans welcomed us into their hearts as we launched a new iteration of Trek and an entire entertainment platform, and we’ll never forget it.”

“65 episodes later, here’s to the entire company of Star Trek: Discovery, to the show and its fifth and final season, to its beloved fans and to all those who envision a better future. Let’s fly… “

News of the series’ demise comes just weeks before Star Trek: Picard wraps its run.

But the wider Star Trek universe remains a priority at Paramount+, with several series in various stages of development.

Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp Reunite at Hallmark With The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango

Lacey Chabert and Will Kemp will dance again.

The Hallmark channel favorites are reuniting for the upcoming Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie, The Dancing Detective: A Deady Tango.

Entertainment Tonight first reported the news.

The movie is filming on location in Malta, but a premiere date has yet to be determined.

“The Dancing Detective: A Deadly Tango follows Constance Bailey (Chabert), a no-nonsense detective who prefers to work alone,” ET shares of the plot.

“When a high-profile CEO is murdered on the eve of his company’s corporate event in Malta — a high-stakes ballroom competition between senior executives — Detective Bailey is sent undercover as one of the contestants.”

“The only problem? She can’t dance. To convincingly compete, she must team up with charismatic and free-spirited performer Sebastian Moore (Kemp).”

“But with a killer on the loose and a growing list of suspects, it’s going to take more than a little fancy footwork to solve this case.”

It sounds like another winning formula for Hallmark.

Chabert and Kemp previously co-starred in 2020’s Christmas Waltz and 2019’s Love, Romance & Chocolate.

“After the success of Christmas Waltz, viewers have been clamoring for another movie with this charismatic duo,” said Elizabeth Yost, Senior Vice President of Programming and Development at Hallmark Media, in a statement.

“When Will came to us with this fun spin on a whodunnit, we knew that it was the perfect opportunity to reunite him with Lacey.”

Kemp and Chabert both signed multi-picture deals with Hallmark in 2022, so they’re both in it for the long haul with Hallmark.

“I love making these movies,” Chabert told TV Fanatic exclusively about working with Hallmark.

I think it was 12 years ago I did my first one called Elevator Girl, and I had no idea that it would turn into what it has.”

“I just completed the third Wedding Veil, which was officially my 35th movie for Hallmark,” the Mean Girls alum shared.

“And I enjoy the different stories that I’ve been able to tell and be a part of. And I love that the movies are so hopeful.”

“And I love hearing from the fans that the movies really mean something to their lives.”

What are your thoughts on the pair reuniting for this new movie?

Fanatic Feed: Kristen Bell to Headline Netflix Comedy, The Great Season 3 Date, & More

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Wednesday, March 1, 2023.

Kristen Bell is returning to Netflix.

The untitled series is “a comedy centered on the unlikely relationship between an irreverent, outspoken, agnostic woman and an unconventional rabbi.”

The series is created by Erin Foster.

Details are scarce for the project, but we’re sure there will be plenty to come in advance of the premiere.

Bell is, of course, best known for her work on Veronica Mars and The Good Place.

Meanwhile, Hulu has confirmed The Great Season 3 will launch Friday, May 12.

The series is getting a binge release, with all 10 episodes dropping simultaneously.

On The Great Season 3, Elle Fanning’s Catherine and Nicholas Hoult’s Peter “attempt to make their marriage work after some seemingly insurmountable problems,” according to the official description.

“Peter witnessed his own attempted murder at Catherine’s hands and she also imprisoned all of his friends.”

“On top of this, Peter is at a loose end playing First Husband to Catherine’s reign, so he busies himself with fathering, hunting and salty culinary ventures.”

“But they’re not enough to keep him contented as visions of his late father (played by Jason Isaacs) get in his head about his failures as Peter the Great’s son,” Hulu’s description adds.

Meanwhile, “Catherine the Great starts making a name for herself beyond her borders and inspired by a visit from the US ambassador, sets up a conference where peasants, nobles and merchants can all give their input on developing a new Russia,” the logline continues.

“She learns that even the best political leaders sometimes need to make compromises in order to progress.”

HBO has announced the second season of its critically acclaimed original series Somebody Somewhere will launch Sunday, April 23, from 10:30-11:00 p.m.

The cast includes Bridget Everett (Sam), Jeff Hiller (Joel), Mary Catherine Garrison (Tricia), Jane Brody (Mary Jo), Murray Hill (Fred Rococo), Mercedes White (Tiffani), Kailey Albus (Shannon), and Meighan Gerachis (Irma).

The new cast for the second season includes Tim Bagley (Brad), Jennifer Mudge (Susan), and Barbara Robertson (Darlene).

From Mighty Mint, Duplass Brothers Productions, and creators and executive producers Hannah Bos and Paul Thureen, the series follows Sam (played by Everett), a true Kansan on the surface, but, beneath it all, struggling to fit the hometown mold.

Grappling with loss and acceptance, singing is Sam’s saving grace and leads her on a journey to discover herself and a community of outsiders who don’t fit in but don’t give up, showing that finding your people, and finding your voice, is possible.

Anywhere. Somewhere. Season two reminds us that families are hard, even the fun ones. Sam and Joel (Jeff Hiller) have settled into a comfy routine. But nothing stays the same forever.

Finally, PBS Masterpiece has unveiled the trailer for the third — and final — season of Sanditon.

The series will return Sunday, March 19, at 9/8c.

Based on the 90-second trailer, there will be a lot of drama.

Check it out below.

Stranger Things Prequel Stage Play: First Details Revealed!

Are you ready to travel to the past with some of your favorite Stranger Things characters?

Netflix on Wednesday morning announced Stranger Things: The First Shadow, a new play penned by Kate Trefry from a story from the Duffer Brothers, will launch in London in late 2023.

The project will be available to watch at Phoenix Theatre in London’s West End.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow will be directed by Stephen Daldry with co-direction by Justin Martin.

According to Netflix, the stage play will be “rooted in the mythology and world of the Netflix global phenomenon.”

“Hawkins, 1959: a regular town with regular worries,” the logline teases.

“Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and get the hell out of town.”

“When new student Henry Creel arrives, his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy… and the shadows of the past have a very long reach,” Netflix adds.

“Brought to life by a multi-award-winning creative team, who take theatrical storytelling and stagecraft to a whole new dimension, this gripping new adventure will take you right back to the beginning of the Stranger Things story – and may hold the key to the end.”

Given that the names Hopper and Creel are included, it’s hard not to be excited about this stage play, but it’s also interesting that it could hold the key to the end.

Might it suggest that Hopper has a link to Creel House?

Matt and Ross Duffer said of the project: “We are beyond excited about Stranger Things: The First Shadow.”

“Collaborating with the brilliant Stephen Daldry has been nothing short of inspiring, and Kate Trefry has written a play that is at turns surprising, scary, and heartfelt.”

“You will meet endearing new characters, as well as very familiar ones, on a journey into the past that sets the groundwork for the future of Stranger Things.”

“We’re dying to tell you more about the story but won’t – it’s more fun to discover it for yourself. Can’t wait to see you nerds in London!”

Sonia Friedman said: “The world and mythology of Stranger Things has enabled a rich and fertile ground for creating an incredible story for the stage.”

“The Duffer Brothers have built a huge global following for good reason, and a world-class creative team has built on their boundless imagination to dream up an unbelievably exciting theatrical event for our audiences.”

“Set within the canon of Stranger Things, this new play opens in London, with the West End hosting the only place in the world to experience this new story – for now. I’m thrilled to reunite with my visionary long-term collaborator Stephen Daldry.”

“Together, with our brilliant Netflix partners, we can’t wait to welcome Stranger Things fans into theatre, and theatregoers into the realm of Stranger Things.”

Stranger Things has been a roaring success for Netflix and is set to return for its fifth and final season in due course.

We say due course because that show takes years to make a season because of the impressive special effects.

Schitt’s Creek: Eugene Levy Addresses Possible Movie

Schitt’s Creek exploded in popularity midway through its run, and now, the six-season comedy feels like a bit of a fever dream.

The comedy won numerous awards for its final seasons on the air and drew acclaim from critics and fans.

Ever since it wrapped its run in 2020, fans have questioned whether a movie could be in the cards for the future.

Eugene Levy has opened up in a new interview with Radio Times about a sequel, and he said that he’s “never stopped thinking” about revisiting that universe.

In the aforementioned interview, Levy said it was a “never say never” situation regarding the series staging a comeback in some capacity.

“There’s nothing in the works right now, to be honest, but you know, we’ve never stopped thinking about what might happen down the line,” Eugene shared.

“We’re certainly open to anything, I think when the idea that is the right idea presents itself we’ll probably act on, I guess.”

Levy opened up about how people seem to recognize him from it wherever he goes.

“It seems to be what most people talk about when they see me on the street or in different counties,” Levy added.

“Then after that, it’s kind of neck and neck with American Pie, which is still up there.”

“It was really just such a delightful show to do,” Levy added, saying that he liked getting to work with his family.

“The fact that I’m working with my son and daughter, it was kind of a gift to fatherhood I guess.”

“I thought it was hitting on all cylinders pretty much from the first season right through to our last.”

What are your thoughts on a potential comeback?

Do you think it would be a good idea to release a movie?

Producer Christin Baker Introduces DIVA Box Office, Home of Exciting LGBTQ+ Women’s Content

No one can say that 2022 didn’t showcase a plethora of TV series with authentically shown LGBTQ characters at the forefront, and for that, we’re cheering.

But many of those same shows have been canceled in their proverbial prime. From Gossip Girl to Warrior Nun, Batwoman to Love, Victor, just to name a few, TV fans were left disheartened, confused, and for some, downright angry.

Perhaps this is the best of times to sign up for DIVA Box Office.

Award-winning director and Emmy-nominated producer Christin Baker spoke with us about the relaunch of DivaBoxOffice.TV, a new streaming service where you have a library full of queer women’s focused content.

Where and what can you watch on DIVA Box Office? And why is a platform like this important now? And what will it cost viewers?

Read on as Christin answers those questions, as well as her thoughts on Warrior Nun, Lucy Lawless, the end of Killing Eve, what she’d do with Katee Sackhoff, and more!

Tell us about the new DIVA Box Office?

It’s a streaming platform that is dedicated to lesbian and queer women. Every single thing that we have on-site is focused on the concept of the community and supporting artists who make content for our community.

So we have some great features. We have some wonderful international shorts. For example, you can rent or buy the holiday movie Merry & Gay, and soon you can get the first installment of ScareBnB: The Hosts.

It’s a streaming platform very similar to an Amazon or like an iTunes, so you don’t have to subscribe.

You can still rent or buy things. But we also have a subscription that includes a lot of great content.

How much is the subscription cost?

It’s $6.99 a month. If you buy it for a year, it’s $59.99, which equates to about $5 a month.

What are you most excited about that’s currently available or upcoming on DIVA Box Office?

Well, definitely the Scare BnB series that we’re launching at the end of February. That’s an original piece of content. It’s two episodes that are going to be part of a limited series, and all the leads are queer females.

It’s got just enough scary for a thriller. But it also isn’t too scary that if you’re not a big fan of horror, like I’m not a huge fan of horror, because it really scares the crap out of me, you can still enjoy it and not be too scared.

Yeah, I’m right there with you.

Yeah, we really tried to hit that not-too-scary but just scary enough spot.

Why do you think it’s important that we have a platform like this?

All the tweets that I’m seeing about how upset people are over the cancellation of Warrior Nun and people got upset about the cancellation of First Kill. I feel like you have a bunch of men making choices for our community, and they don’t care. They don’t care how important the fandom is or the community.

They are looking at the bottom line, and if it doesn’t fit or doesn’t meet what they think of as success, they just cancel it. And I think that’s happened quite a bit this year with some things that we love. I think people are just kind of tired of it.

So, it’s important to have a community, a platform run by the community, so people have a place, especially for indie content. It’s one thing to have millions of dollars and make something, but we’re here to really support the independent indie queer female filmmaker as well.

Now on to a different subject. Since we’re TV Fanatics here, if you could wave a magic wand and be a part of one TV show in any way you want, directing, producing, any show at all, past or present, which one would you choose?

Oh my gosh, you know what popped into my mind? There’s a lot of great past content out there. Lucy Lawless has been on my mind recently, and I loved Xena when I was younger, so I feel to be involved in that would be fun.

But really, I would want to be in a decision-making capacity for Killing Eve so I could change the flipping ending! I loved that series so so much, and it was perfection, in my opinion, until the end. I think Fiona Shaw is brilliant. I think Jodie Comer is brilliant. I think Sandra Oh is brilliant.

So I just think they had this amazing stellar cast, and then they just f’ed it up in the end.

I also really loved Battlestar Galactica, but that’s not as gay as I would want. As far as I’m concerned, Katee Sackhoff should be playing gay at all times.

“The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.”

The series is based on Kate Anderson Brower’s book, The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House.

Netflix handed out a straight-to-series order for the project in March 2023.

The company is also no stranger to White House-set dramas. Scandal was a massive hit for ABC from 2012 – 2018.

Shonda Rhimes executive produces alongside Betsy Beers alongside Paul William Davies (Scandal, For the People).

THR notes that the series is still casting for the role of the show’s president.

With the success of Shondaland’s other series on Netflix, it will be fun to see where The Residence fits in.

The plot sounds great, and the cast is shaping up to be one of the strongest on the small screen.

Michael Mando Reportedly Fired From Apple TV+ Drama Following Clash With Co-Star

Michael Mando has reportedly been let go from the Apple TV+ series Sinking Spring.

According to Deadline, the Better Call Saul star has reportedly had an on-set altercation with another cast member.

As a result, the role has been recast, and Wagner Moura is taking over the position in the crime drama.

THR revealed that producers tried to keep the show going with the original cast intact, but their attempts to smooth things over were not enough to keep Mando on the series.

Mando is best known for playing Ignacio “Nacho” Varga on the hit AMC series Better Call Saul.

He was a fan-favorite on the series and has also worked on Spider-Man: Homecoming, Elysium, and Orphan Black.

Moura’s casting brings him back into the Apple TV+ family after starring opposite Elisabeth Moss on Shining Girls.

Sinking Spring focuses on two lifelong friends from Philadelphia who pose as DEA agents to rob a country house.

“But the small-scale grift quickly becomes a matter of life and death,” the official description for the series teases.

“The friends soon unravel as they find one of the biggest narcotics corridors on the East Coast.”

Moura stars opposite Brian Tyree Henry in the project that is executive produced by Ridley Scott.

The show is based on Dennis Tafoya’s book Dope Thief.

Henry also serves as executive producer and has previously starred in Causeway, Bullet Train, Eternals, Joker, This Is Us, and Atlanta.

Apple TV+ and Mando have not spoken out on the matter, but we’ll keep you up to speed on any new developments.

Sinking Spring joins an award-winning slate of TV series and movies on the streaming service.
