Good Bones TV Show on HGTV: canceled or renewed?

(Photo: HGTV)

Good Bones is ending its run on HGTV after its upcoming eighth season. Mina Starsiak Hawk revealed on her Mina AF podcast that the mother/daughter home renovation series is ending, per Collider.

In the Good Bones series, real estate agent Starsiak Hawk and her mother, lawyer Karen E. Laine, work together renovating homes in the Indianapolis area.

The series first aired on HGTV in 2016, and season eight arrives on August 15th. In the ten episodes, viewers will see Starsiak Hawk help both of her younger siblings, sister Kelsy and brother Tad, reimagine their new homes, while the rest of the Good Bones crew take on a slew of new renovation projects.

Starsiak Hawk said the following about the decision to end Good Bones:

“It was making it really, really hard to function as, like, a normal human being, because I always felt the weight of so many other people’s worlds that I put on my shoulders. I got to a point where I think I kind of felt like… I was fighting for my life, or fighting for my family’s life, fighting for my employees’ lives, to figure something out, to find a solution, to find the next thing.”

What do you think? Are you sad to hear that there won’t be a ninth season of the Good Bones TV series on HGTV?

The Office: Leslie David Baker Refunds Donations for Stanley Spin-off Series

The Office TV show on NBC: (canceled or renewed?)

(Photo: NBC)

Stanley Hudson from The Office isn’t getting a spin-off after all.  In 2020, actor Leslie David Baker started a Kickstarter campaign for the spin-off series and raised $336,451 from 1,640 donations. Baker played Stanley Hudson, the grumpy and disgruntled paper salesman, on all nine seasons of the NBC comedy series.

The series, titled Uncle Stan, was to revolve around Stanley as he comes out of retirement and travels from Florida to Los Angeles to help his nephew save a fledgling motorcycle/flower shop business.

COVID-19 and the current strikes have stalled the project, so Baker has decided to return people’s money. The project may still happen but, “in light of the current economic situation, we felt that this was the best course of action,” Baker wrote.

Baker released a statement about his decision on Instagram. He said the following, per Variety:

“We apologize about the delay in updates. We have been working behind the scenes to get everything on track and rewards fulfilled. We are just as excited as all of you to get this project out and truly appreciate all of your patience and support.

The project took longer than anticipated due to circumstances beyond our control. Initial delays were caused because of the COVID lockdowns and pushed us back further than expected. As things started returning to normal and we commenced reward fulfillment and preproduction, the WGA strike was announced causing us to put things on hold again. As you are all aware, SAG is now on strike and we will continue to be on hold indefinitely until an agreement is reached. We stand in solidarity with those in the entertainment industry and will do our part in supporting WGA and SAG during these times.”

“FYI, although the total funded amount shown on our Kickstarter campaign page was stated as $336,450.53, that was not the actual final amount we received,” Baker added. “A large portion of backers’ pledges were lowered, or completely dropped and never collected once the campaign was completed. The final amount that we received from Kickstarter was exactly $110,629.81. The funds were never used for any purposes other than reward fulfillment and backer refunds, and have otherwise remained accounted for and untouched in the account.”

What do you think? Did you want to see the return of Stanley Hudson? Would you like to see an Office spin-off someday?

Suspicion: Cancelled; No Season Two for Apple TV+ Thriller Series

(Photo: Apple TV+)

Suspicion will not be returning for a second season. Deadline reports that the streaming service quietly cancelled the Uma Thurman (above, right) drama a year ago.

Starring Thurman, Kunal Nayyar, Noah Emmerich, Georgina Campbell, Elyes Gabel, Elizabeth Henstridge, Tom Rhys-Harries, and Angel Coulby, the Apple TV+ series follows the kidnapping of the 21-year-old son of a businesswoman (Thurman) from New York City. The event is caught on camera, and the video goes viral. Five people have their lives turned upside down after London police identify them as suspects in the case.

The thriller series, inspired by the Israeli drama False Flag, was ordered in March 2020, but production was delayed until 2021 due to the pandemic. Rob Williams served as showrunner.

The eight-episode season arrived in February 2022. The show received generally positive reviews but some were unhappy with the ending. The season finale brought the story to a close so a potential second season would have likely had to focus on a new story.

What do you think? Did you watch the Suspicion TV series? Did you enjoy this thriller? Would you have checked out a second season?

City on Fire: Cancelled by Apple TV+, No Season Two for Crime Drama

City on Fire TV Show on Apple TV+: canceled or renewed?

(Photo: Apple TV+)

City on Fire will not return for a second season. Apple TV+ canceled the drama, which wrapped its eight-episode season in June, per Deadline.

From Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the series follows a teenager as he investigates the murder of his friend in 2003 New York City. Starring Wyatt Oleff, Chase Sui Wonders, Jemima Kirke, Nico Tortorella, Ashley Zukerman, Xavier Clyde, Max Milner, Alexandra Doke, Omid Abtahi, Kathleen Munroe, and John Cameron Mitchell, City on Fire is based on the novel by Garth Risk Hallberg.

The drama did have the possibility of a second season with events in the season finale. Still, the series did not have the same impact other releases on the streaming service had this year, including Silo and Hijack.

Masters of the Universe: He-Man Live-Action Movie Dead at Netflix

Masters of the Universe TV Show: canceled or renewed?

(Photo: Filmation)

Masters of the Universe fans will not see a new live-action film from Netflix. Per Variety, the long-gestating project has been officially killed by the streamer. Toy maker Mattel is shopping the project elsewhere and has confirmed it is no longer at the streaming service.

The following was revealed about the film:

“Insiders said that close to $30 million has already been spent on development costs and the cash that’s been shelled out to hold on to talent – like previously announced lead Kyle Allen and the film’s heatseeking directing duo Adam and Aaron Nee (“The Lost City”). Other knowledgable sources estimate all-in costs for development at twice that figure.”

The movie was to be based on the Mattel toy line and the popular Filmation animated series from the 1980s. The story follows heroic He-Man (secretly Prince Adam) and his friends on the planet of Eternia as they battle the evil Skeletor and his minions.

A 1987 live-action movie was a commercial failure with Dolph Lundgren leading as He-Man. Other Masters of the Universe animated series have been created over the years, most recently on Netflix.

What do you think? Do you want to see a new live-action He-Man film? Is Allen a good choice for the lead role?

Fantastic Friends: Travel Series from Harry Potter Actors Dropped by The CW After Two Weeks

Fantastic Friends TV show on The CW: canceled or renewed for season 2?

The magic is gone already. The CW has cancelled the Fantastic Friends TV series after just two airings. The show has been renewed for a second season, but it’s unlikely that the US network will be airing it.

A light-hearted docu-series, the Fantastic Friends TV show stars James and Oliver Phelps, aka the Weasley twins from the Harry Potter movies. Part adventure-travel series and part a celebration of friendship, the cameras follow the Phelps twins as they travel around the globe, from Iceland to Ireland, from St. Lucia to Dubai. The brothers expand their horizons and explore new worlds while engaging in a series of magic-themed challenges and competitions. Along the way, they meet up with one of their famous friends, who then take on the role of tour guide. The cast includes the twin’s Harry Potter co-stars Evanna Lynch, Bonnie Wright, and Luke Youngblood, as well as Maisie Williams, Sophie Skelton, and Haley Joel Osment.

Airing on Tuesday nights, the pair of episodes from the first season of Fantastic Friends averaged a 0.03 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 160,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It’s the network’s lowest-rated show compared to the other summer shows.

The first season has already been released in Canada, New Zealand, and other overseas locales. The CW’s new management has decided to focus on keeping costs down by airing inexpensive and acquired programming.

Since the network doesn’t own its shows, ratings and ad revenue are very important to the bottom line. As a result, the execs apparently aren’t shy about pulling shows that aren’t measuring up. The CW has also pulled acquired shows Down To Earth with Zac Efron and Barons this summer. The latter series’ final episodes were released online, and it seems likely that the remaining first-season installments of Fantastic Friends will end up there too.

For the immediate future, reruns of Whose Line Is It Anyway? will fill the Mondays at 9 PM timeslot.

What do you think? Have you enjoyed the Fantastic Friends TV series? Are you disappointed that The CW has dropped the show?

Up Here: Cancelled by Hulu; No Season Two for Musical Romantic Comedy Series

Up Here TV Show on Hulu: canceled or renewed?

(Photo: Hulu)

Up Here will not be returning for a second season. Hulu has cancelled the musical romantic comedy series, per TV Line. The eight-episode first season premiered in March.

Starring Mae Whitman and Carlos Valdes, with Katie Finneran, John Hodgman, Andréa Burns, Sophia Hammons, Rehanshi Mirza, and Emilia Suárez, the series follows a couple who meet in New York City during the final days of 1999.  Lindsay (Whitman) and Miguel (Valdes) fall in love and discover their most significant obstacle to finding happiness together might just be themselves. There’s also the treacherous world of memories, obsessions, fears, and fantasies that live inside their heads.

The Hulu series, ordered in February 2022, was written by Steven Levenson (tick, tick…BOOM!, Dear Evan Hansen) and Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (The Carmichael Show).  Songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Frozen, WandaVision) wrote original songs. Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directed and executive produced the series alongside Levenson, Sanchez-Witzel, Anderson-Lopez, Lopez, and Jennifer Todd.

The first season of Up Here wrapped with the couple saying “I love you” to each other on New Year’s Eve.

What do you think? Did you watch this Hulu series? Did you want to see a second season of Up Here, or was one season enough?

Down to Earth with Zac Efron: Cancelled on CW; Network Drops Docuseries After Two Episodes

Down to Earth with Zac Efron TV show on Netflix and The CW: canceled or renewed for season 2?

It looks like Zac isn’t coming back to The CW for a second season — or even the rest of his show’s first. The smallest broadcast network has dropped Down to Earth with Zac Efron show after just two airings.

A documentary series, the Down to Earth with Zac Efron TV show stars actor Zac Efron and wellness expert Darin Olien. The duo travels the world searching for the secrets to good health, a long life, and a higher level of eco-consciousness. Through the adventure and laughs, this travelogue, food odyssey, and eco-warrior series takes the star out of his comfort zone and into the world’s far corners. In the first season, locations include Costa Rica, France, Iceland, Iquitos, Lima, London, Puerto Rico, and Sardinia.

Airing on Tuesday nights, the two episodes of the first season of Down to Earth with Zac Efron averaged a 0.04 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 269,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was a middle-of-the-road performer compared to the network’s other summer shows.

The first season was released on Netflix three years ago and on Vice this past spring.

The CW has also pulled acquired shows Fantastic Friends and Barons in the past month. The latter series’ final episodes were released online, and it seems likely that the remaining installments of Down to Earth will end up there too.

For the immediate future, reruns of Penn & Teller: Fool Us will fill the Mondays at 8 PM timeslot.

What do you think? Have you enjoyed watching the Down to Earth with Zac Efron series on The CW? Are you disappointed that the network has cancelled its future airings?

Restaurant: Impossible: Robert Irvine Talks About the Cancellation of the Food Network Series

Restaurant Impossible TV Show on Netflix: canceled or renewed?

Restaurant: Impossible has come to an end. Food Network has cancelled the series starring Robert Irvine after 22 seasons. The series follows Irvine as he helps the owners of struggling restaurants.

Irvine spoke about the cancellation of the series by Food Network on social media, and he held nothing back when viewers asked about the series’ demise.

He said the following, per Deadline:

“I’m old news and although the show is a GREAT show that helps small business and families / communities it’s not a show that they believe fits into who or what they want or the younger viewers like. I really have no idea, all I know is j will come to [the] to help all those in need regardless.

I don’t think any amount of fans telling Food Network to bring it back will do anything.. to change their mind.

They have a different idea of what the viewers want and [Restaurant: Impossible] isn’t in that .. so we will move on and see what happens next .. when i know i will let you know lol.”

The 22nd and final season of Restaurant: Impossible wrapped on April 6th after 191 episodes and numerous specials.

What do you think? Did you watch Restaurant: Impossible on Food Network? Are you sad the series has come to an end?

Seasoned, Gattaca: Showtime Cancels TV Series Orders

Showtime has cancelled its plans for the new Seasoned TV series and a reboot of Gattaca, per THR. The cancellations come as the cable network’s programming was folded into the Paramount+ streaming service this week.

A reboot of the 1997 film of the same name, the Gattaca series project was written by Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa, and Craig Borten. The story was to focus on a generation after the events of the movie, in a time when science and humanity have evolved to the point where humans can direct their own evolution. Sony Pictures Television is now shopping the project to other outlets. The fact that Showtime does not own the project makes it more expensive for the cable channel to produce.

As for Seasoned, the series was given a six-episode order in April. Starring Mandy Patinkin and his wife, Kathryn Grody, the series is inspired by their own lives and marriage. The couple’s son, Gideon Grody-Patinkin, and Ewen Wright co-created the series. It tells the story of the relationship and life of a successful, gregarious, deeply committed, slightly insane married couple.  It is not known if the series will land on another outlet.

Under Chris McCarthy, President and CEO of Media Networks at Paramount, Showtime will focus on content in three lanes: anti-heroes, powerful worlds, and diverse cultures. The cable network is investing in properties it already owns and is turning familiar shows like Billions and Dexter into franchises.

What do you think? Did you plan to watch these two shows when they eventually arrived on Showtime? Would you like to see them find new homes?

Snowflake Mountain: Cancelled, No Season Two for Netflix Reality Series

Snowflake Mountain TV Show on Netflix: canceled or renewed?

Netflix has cancelled Snowflake Mountain. The reality series debuted in June 2022 and features a group of coddled British people taken to the Britain wilderness. Surviving means a $50,000 cash prize. Matt Tate and Joel Graves hosted the series.

Netflix described the series as follows:

Snowflake Mountain is a funny, warm-hearted reality show which takes a bunch of clueless kidults who aren’t yet living to their full potential and puts them through their paces at a wilderness survival retreat to try and kickstart them into standing on their own two feet. The back-to-basics camp is a rude awakening to just how pampered their lives have been so far. At stake is a transformative cash prize for the lucky winner. There’s no running water, no parents to wait on them, and, worst of all, no Wi-Fi. But, by connecting to nature, they’ll learn to graduate as fully-functioning adults.

Per Deadline, the reality series was cancelled because it didn’t “hit the heights of other unscripted series, such as Too Hot To Handle.”

What do you think? Did you watch Snowflake Mountain last summer? Did you want to watch a second season of the series on Netflix?

Here’s more information from Netflix about the final season of Sex Education:

In a letter to fans, creator, lead writer and executive producer, Laurie Nunn said: “We are incredibly proud of Sex Education and feel indebted to our brilliant writers, cast and crew who put so much heart into making every episode. They have worked tirelessly to bring you the final series, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Season 4 logline:

Following the closure of Moordale Secondary, Otis and Eric now face a new frontier – their first day at Cavendish Sixth Form College. Otis is nervous about setting up his new clinic, whilst Eric is praying they won’t be losers again. But Cavendish is a culture shock for all the Moordale students – they thought they were progressive but this new college is another level. There’s daily yoga in the communal garden, a strong sustainability vibe and a group of kids who are popular for being… kind?! Viv is totally thrown by the college’s student-led, non-competitive approach, while Jackson is still struggling to get over Cal. Aimee tries something new by taking an Art A-Level and Adam grapples with whether mainstream education is for him. Over in the US, Maeve is living her dream at prestigious Wallace University, being taught by cult author Thomas Molloy. Otis is pining after her, whilst adjusting to not being an only child at home, or the only therapist on campus…

The fourth and final season debuts on September 21st.
