Judy Nugent Dies: ‘Magnificent Obsession’, ‘Adventures Of Superman’ Child Actor Was 83

Judy Nugent, the former ’50s child actor who co-starred with Jane Wyman in Magnificent Obsession, Annette Funicello in the popular Annette serial on ABC’s The Mickey Mouse Club and flew in the arms of George Reeves’ Superman in a 1954 episode of The Adventures of Superman, died of October 26 cancer, surrounded by family at her ranch in Montana. She was 83.

Her death was announced in a family statement released by daughter-in-law Anne Lockhart, the Chicago Fire actor and daughter of Lost in Space star June Lockhart.

A Los Angeles native – she was the daughter of MGM prop man Carl Nugent – Nugent had already appeared in a handful of uncredited roles, including in the 1951 film Angels in the Outfield, when she landed her breakthrough role as Donna Ruggles in the 1949-52 TV series The Ruggles, an early family sitcom starring comic actor Charles Ruggles (Bringing Up Baby). Nugent played the twin sister of child actor Jimmy Hawkins (It’s A Wonderful Life).

After the cancelation of The Ruggles, Nugent landed guest shots on The Lone Ranger, in the film Ma and Pa Kettle At Home, and, in perhaps the role most fondly remembered by Baby Boomers, as Ann Carson, a blind girl who enters a Daily Planet contest to fly around the world with Superman in the 1954 Season 2 episode of Adventures of Superman. (Her eyesight is restored after Clark Kent/Superman uses his super vision to detect the cause of her blindness.)

That same year she appeared in Magnificent Obsession and on the TV series The Life of Riley. The following years brought additional screen credits (Lassie, There’s Always Tomorrow, The Girl Most Likely) and in 1958 she had a featured role The Mickey Mouse Club‘s Annette serial, playing Jet Maypen, best friend to star Funicello.

Small roles continued through the early 1960s – 77 Sunset Strip, Sugarfoot, Rawhide and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, among others – but she largely retired from acting after marrying Gunsmoke actor Buck Tayler, son of character actor Dub Taylor, in 1961. The couple, who had four children, divorced in 1981.

Nugent is survived by daughter Tiffany; sons Matt and Cooper; daughter-in-law Anne Lockhart and grandchildren Carlyle and Zane. She was preceded in death by son Adam, who was married to Lockhart and died in 1994 at age 27 in a motorcycle accident.

‘South Park’ Skewers Lucasfilm Boss Kathleen Kennedy In ‘Panderverse’ Special

South Park: Joining the Panderverse drops on Paramount+ today and in this clip, Cartman realizes his greatest nightmare where he’s replaced by a “diverse woman.”

“It wasn’t just me, they were taking all my favorite people and replacing them with diverse women complaining about the patriarchy,” says a stirred Cartman to his mother.

But co-creator Trey Parker and Matt Stone dig further:

“Will you check under the bed and make sure there are no Disney executives under there?” says Cartman.

“I’m scared Mom! Will you please just look and make sure Kathleen Kennedy isn’t under my bed!” he pleads.

“Kathleen Kennedy is not under your bed” responds Cartman’s mom.

“I’ve told you there’s no such thing as Disney executives who replace everyone you love with diverse women who complain about the patriarchy. Now be a big boy,” she adds.

In South Park: Joining the Panderverse, the adults, too, are also wrestling with their own life decisions as the advent of AI is turning their world upside down. Why is Kennedy a target? Cartman blames her for “why the Disney movies all suck now.” In the special, Kennedy and Disney CEO Bob Iger reveal that they’ve been using a devise known as “the Pander Stone”, a piece of AI that makes the same movie over and over again, appealing to the masses. Kennedy use of the Pander Stone in the episode fractures the multiverse with Cartman and Kennedy sent to the wrong universe.

The special is part of several exclusive Paramount+ South Park events including South Park: Post Covid, South Park: Post Covid: The Return of Covid, South Park the Streaming Wars and South Park The Streaming Wars Part I.

In 2022, South Park the series celebrated the 25th anniversary of its August 13, 1997 debut on Comedy Central. Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny were first seen in the animated short “The Spirit of Christmas,” and from there were launched into television history. Co-creators Parker and Stone are EPs, along with Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell and Vernon Chatman are producers. Christopher Brion is the Creative Director of South Park Digital Studios.

Fatal Attraction: Cancelled; No Season Two for Paramount+ Reboot Series

(Photo: Michael Moriatis/Paramount+)

Fatal Attraction will not be returning for a second season. The thriller is one of two shows the streaming service has cancelled this week. Kiefer Sutherland’s Rabbit Hole was also dropped after one season.

Starring Joshua Jackson, Lizzy Caplan, Amanda Peet, Alyssa Jirrels, Toby Huss, Reno Wilson, and Brian Goodman, the eight-episode series reimagined the 1980s thriller movie starring Glenn Close and Michael Douglas.

Paramount+ described the series this way:

The all-new series is a deep dive reimagining of the 1980s cultural touchstone FATAL ATTRACTION through the lens of privilege, personality disorders, family dynamics and murder. In the present day, after serving 15 years in prison for the murder of Alexandra Forrest (Lizzy Caplan), Daniel Gallagher (Joshua Jackson) is paroled with the goals of reconnecting with his family and proving his innocence. In 2008, Dan first meets Alex and his world begins to unravel after their brief affair threatens to destroy the life he’s built with his wife, Beth (Amanda Peet).

The following statement was released by the streamer regarding the shows’ cancellations:

“We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life. Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover.”

The series premiered in April 2023, with its finale being released on May 28th.

UK TV Regulator Ofcom Suspends Director For Liking Instagram Post Accusing Israel Of “Ethnic Cleansing”

British media regulator Ofcom has suspended its online safety supervision director over Instagram activity that appeared to be anti-Israeli in sentiment.

Ofcom, which is responsible for policing impartiality on TV, has taken action against Fadzai Madzingira after UK political blog Guido Fawkes published screenshots from her private Instagram account.

Madzingira appeared to like a post from Black Lives Matter UK which was critical of the British government of deploying Royal Navy ships to support Israel in the Gaza conflict.

“As if it wasn’t bad enough already, the U.K is also set to participate in the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians,” the post said. “Shame on this vile colonial alliance. #freepalestine.”

Guido Fawkes also published a screenshot purporting to be a message Madzingira posted to her Instagram Stories. She commented on the “targeting of Palestinians” and appeared to liken Israel’s actions to genocide.

In a statement, Ofcom said: “Having reviewed these comments we’ve suspended this colleague, pending further investigation.”

Madzingira was hired by Ofcom in May to strengthen its online safety team ahead of taking on regulation of the internet. She has previously worked at Facebook owner Meta, where she was a public policy manager.

The timing is not ideal for Ofcom, which today announced Sky News executive Cristina Nicolotti Squires as group director for broadcasting and media. Nicolotti Squires’ hire was a reminder of Ofcom’s duty to uphold standards of impartiality on television.

(Photo: NBC)

Season three of Transplant arrives on NBC tomorrow night, and the peacock network has already picked up the medical drama for a fourth season. The season four episodes have already started airing on CTV in Canada and the network has announced that those ten episodes will be the end.

Starring Hamza Haq, Laurence Leboeuf, John Hannah, Jim Watson, Ayisha Issa, Linda E. Smith, Torri Higginson, Gord Rand, Nora Guerch, and Ahmad Meree, the series follows Doctor Bashid Hamed (Haq), a talented doctor from Syria who flees his war-torn country to make a new life and career at a Toronto hospital.

CTV revealed the following about the series ending in a press release.

As TRANSPLANT returns for an all-new season, which finds everyone at York Memorial Hospital encountering bold emotional medical cases while facing personal upheaval and unexpected new beginnings, CTV announced today that the acclaimed original drama will conclude following its upcoming fourth season. The award-winning series returns to CTV’s fall schedule, airing Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, CTV.ca, and the CTV app, for an exciting conclusion to Bashir “Bash” Hamed’s (Hamza Haq, Viking) emotional journey to start his life over again, beginning Oct. 6. Consisting of 10 one-hour episodes, TRANSPLANT is produced by Sphere Media in association with CTV and Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

“I’d always intended a four-season window into Bashir’s life as he completes his medical residency for a second time, sets down roots in Canada, and learns to shed some of his past, and it’s incredibly fulfilling to be able to tell his complete story,” said Joseph Kay, TRANSPLANT Creator, Executive Producer, and Showrunner. “This series is a labour of love for the great many of us who make it, and we’re excited for people to keep finding it for years to come. Thank you to our partners at Bell Media and Universal International Studios for the unyielding support.”

“From the beginning viewers embraced Bash’s story and the incredible world Joseph created, and we’re incredibly proud to have been part of the journey,” said Justin Stockman, Vice-President, Content Development & Programming, Bell Media. “As Season 4 brings this story to a fulfilling end, we want to thank the extraordinary cast and crew, and our partners at Sphere Media and Universal International Studios, for bringing this unforgettable series to life.”

Currently filming in Montréal, Season 4 of TRANSPLANT finds Bashir “Bash” Hamed (Haq) on the precipice of finishing his residency at York Memorial and officially re-qualifying as a doctor. With his future uncertain once again, Bash and his sister Amira (Sirena Gulamgaus, CHAPELWAITE) are Canadian citizens now, but are still trying, with everything they have, to build a life in their adopted country.

TRANSPLANT stars Hamza Haq as Dr. Bashir “Bash” Hamed; Laurence Leboeuf (SHORESY, 19-2) as Dr. Magalie “Mags” Leblanc; Ayisha Issa (POLAR) as Dr. June Curtis; Jim Watson (DESIGNATED SURVIVOR) as Dr. Theo Hunter; Rekha Sharma (YELLOWJACKETS) as Dr. Neeta Devi; Sirena Gulamgaus as Amira Hamed; Torri Higginson (DARK MATTER, THIS LIFE) as Claire Malone; Kenny Wong (PRETTY HARD CASES) as Arnold De Luca; Sugith Varughese (KIM’S CONVENIENCE) as Dr. Aajay Singh; and Gord Rand (ORPHAN BLACK) as Dr. Mark Novak.

Since its debut in 2020, TRANSPLANT has routinely ranked as a Top 20 series on CTV and has remained the most-watched Canadian drama series each broadcast year. To date, the series has amassed 23 Canadian Screen Award nominations, and has been honoured with 15 wins, including two wins for Best Dramatic Series and three consecutive wins for Hamza Haq in the Best Lead Performer, Drama Series category.

Haq also shared about the cancellation of the series in a post on Instagram.

What do you think? Are you a fan of this Canadian medical drama? Do you plan to watch the series’ return on NBC tomorrow night?

Vikings: Valhalla: Season Three to End Netflix Drama in 2024 (First Photos)

Vikings: Valhalla TV Show on Netflix: canceled or renewed?

(Photo: Bernard Walsh/Netflix)

It’s time for one more adventure with Vikings. Netflix has released the first photos for season three of Vikings: Valhalla. Set to arrive in 2024, it has been announced that season three will end the historical drama series.

Starring Sam Corlett, Frida Gustavsson, Leo Suter, Bradley Freegard, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Laura Berlin, David Oakes, Pollyanna McIntosh, and Soren Pilmark, the series is set 100 years after the events seen in the original Vikings series. Vikings: Valhalla follows the life of Leif Erikson (Corlett). Florian Munteanu and Goran Višnjić are joining the cast for season three.

Vikings: Valhalla co-creator Jeb Stuart said the following about ending the Netflix series, per TUDUM:

“I am so grateful to have had three seasons to tell the stories of Leif, Harald, and Freydís. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to show the evolution of how three of the most famous Vikings became the icons we know today, and we have done just that,” Stuart said. “I hope when the audience gets to see the new season, they’ll be excited by all the new heights that we’ve taken these heroes.

When we started this project five years ago, I worked hard with this incredible cast and crew to craft a journey that we all hoped would be satisfying. Of course with real historical figures, there are always more aspects of their lives that could be explored, but it made sense storywise for our Leif, Freydís, and Harald’s voyages to end with our third season. And we really cannot wait for the fans to see the conclusion of this chapter of history.”

The premiere date for Vikings: Valhalla season three will be announced later. More photos from the upcoming final season are below.

Home Economics: Cancelled by ABC; No Season Four for Family Comedy Series

Home Economics TV show on ABC: canceled or renewed for season 4?

(ABC)

The Hayworth clan has had their last family get-together. ABC has cancelled the Home Economics series, so there won’t be a fourth season. The third season of 13 episodes finished airing in January.

A family comedy series, the Home Economics TV show stars Topher Grace, Caitlin McGee, Jimmy Tatro, Karla Souza, Sasheer Zamata, Shiloh Bearman, Jordyn Curet, Chloe Jo Rountree, JeCobi Swain, and Lidia Porto. The show takes a look at the heartwarming yet super-uncomfortable and sometimes frustrating relationship between three adult siblings of the Hayworth family. Connor (Tatro) is the youngest and most successful sibling in the family and he runs his own private equity firm. His marriage has fallen apart and he has a daughter named Gretchen (Bearman). Tom (Grace) is the middle sibling and is a middle-class author who is struggling. He is married to Marina (Souza), a former attorney, and they have three kids, including Camila (Rountree). Sarah (McGee) is the eldest sibling and an out-of-work child therapist who’s barely making ends meet. She is married to Denise (Zamata), a teacher, and they have two kids (Swain and Curet). The family lives in a cramped Bay Area loft.

Airing on Wednesday nights, the third season of Home Economics averages a 0.35 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.03 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (includes all DVR playback through 3:00 AM). Compared to season two, that’s up by 7% in the demo and up by 6% in viewership. Despite the year-to-year gains, the comedy was one of ABC’s least-watched scripted series of the 2022-23 TV season. It picked up about 40% more viewers in the live+7 day ratings, averaging about 2.92 million.

The network had been holding off on making a decision on the show’s fate until the industry strikes had been resolved and even extended the cast’s options beyond the June 30th contract deadline. Now that the writers strike has been resolved and the end of the actors strike appears to be in sight, Home Economics’ fate has been decided.

A decision has yet to be made on the future of The Rookie: Feds and The Good Lawyer, a backdoor pilot spin-off of The Good Doctor.

What do you think? Do you enjoy the Home Economics TV series on ABC? Are you disappointed to hear that it’s been cancelled?
