CBS Shakeup: Blood and Treasure Returns to the Schedule Temporarily as Big Brother Eviction Banished to Friday

CBS is switching its programming up for one week only.

CBS News coverage of the House select committee’s public hearings on Jan. 6 will be broadcast Thursday, July 21 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET).

The move means that Big Brother will be vacating its 9:00-10 PM, ET slot this week.

Instead, the weekly eviction episode of the hit reality series will move to Friday, July 22 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), replacing the previously scheduled second season premiere of Secret Celebrity Renovation.

The latter will now move to Friday, July 29 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

A Big Brother eviction on a Friday will certainly be different, and it will be exciting to see whether fans will follow the show to this special night.

Eviction episodes are typically the highest-rated episodes of the long-running reality series.

It’s unclear whether the episode will still be filmed Thursday, and if so, it would mean that the live feeds would be down for a longer-than-usual time at this point in the season.

Big Brother returned earlier this month and remains a strong performer, but the series hasn’t been controversy-free.

The series has caught heat for the houseguests’ treatment of Taylor Hale.

Paloma Aguilar was removed from the house ahead of the first eviction episode after viewers noticed erratic behavior on the live feed and on the CBS broadcasts of the show.

Granted, those episodes drastically scaled back the behavior.

Joining Big Brother on Friday is the Blood and Treasure Season 2 premiere, which recenlty moved to Paramount+ after an almost three-year wait between seasons.

However, CBS is billing this as a “one-time special showing,” so viewers will need to embrace the world of streaming to watch the rest of the series.

It isn’t a bad idea to get fans invested and then send them to the world of streaming, and maybe it’s the sign of things to come.

EVIL moved over to Paramount+ without airing episodes of its second season on CBS, but SEAL Team got a four-episode sendoff from CBS.

What are your thoughts on the shakeup?

Will you follow Big Brother to Friday this week?

Pulitzer Board Refuses Donald Trump’s Request To Rescind Prizes To Washington Post, New York Times For Russian Interference Coverage

The board that awards Pulitzer Prizes released a statement on Monday declining Donald Trump’s request that they strip The New York Times and The Washington Post of a joint prize for their reporting on Russian interference in the 2016 election.

The board said in a statement that they commissioned two independent reviews that “converged in their conclusions: that no passages or headlines, contentions or assertions in any of the winning submissions were discredited by facts that emerged subsequent to the conferral of the prizes.”

The staffs of the Times and the Post were awarded Pulitzers for national reporting in 2018 for “deeply sourced, relentlessly reported coverage in the public interest that dramatically furthered the nation’s understanding of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its connections to the Trump campaign, the President-elect’s transition team and his eventual administration.”

Trump had repeated a “no collusion, no obstruction” mantra in the aftermath of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

But what Mueller’s probe found was that there was insufficient evidence to show that Trump or members of his campaign conspired with the Russian government in election interference activities. When it came to obstruction, Muelller’s report did not render a conclusion, but also stated that it did not exonerate Trump.

The board said that the review was conducted “by individuals with no connection to the institutions whose work was under examination, nor any connection to each other.”

Riverdale Season 6 Episode 20 Review: Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: Return to Rivervale

Rivervale is back, and it’s just as supernatural as ever.

A trip to Riverdale’s “Upside Down” on Riverdale Season 6 Episode 20 was more a fact-finding mission than a spooky road trip adventure. Finding information on Riverdale’s current Big Bad was the name of the game, especially with the brewing war coming.

But with only three chapters left on Riverdale Season 6, any new information or developments are more important than the last.

Enter “Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: Return to Rivervale.” This was an exposition-heavy chapter more than anything else.

Questions about Percival Pickens? We’ve got answers!

Percival basically laid out everything; he covered his origin story, his big motivation, his plans, and why he did what he did. Plus, the surrounding characters filled in the rest of the gaps to explain the powers and why everything is happening.

It’s great to finally get all the answers. There were a lot of plot holes that needed to be solved before the end of the story. But, there should’ve been some pacing and breaks so that some details were found out earlier.

Seriously, there was a lot of information to be dumped into one chapter!

And the impact of those revelations would’ve hit harder had there been some space.

Granted, the truth of the powers and the “Super Teens” could only happen in Rivervale. We needed Rivervale Jughead to explain the story and the dark future of the group. Rivervale also filled in the gaps about Mr. Cypher’s deal with Percival and the supernatural leaks.

My recommendation is that the B-plot of the chapter, where Percival is talking with Alice about his past, could’ve happened one chapter earlier.

Percival Pickens: I was among those early settlers.
Alice: How was that possible?
Percival Pickens: Patience, Alice. All will be revealed in time.

Hear me out: Percival goes on TV with Alice and does his tirade; he flexes his evilness, discusses the execution, and he slips about his Rivervale connection. Then, the following chapter is the whole portal travel and execution.

A bit of pacing could’ve helped remove one of the filler episodes to deliver a more powerful chapter.

If Percival had to do an exposition dump, Alice’s TV interview was a good choice.

The interview was in a specific setting, all we got was Alice and Percival talking, and there were no distractions except for the side plots. And Alice formatted the interview so that we got the answers to the questions we needed to know.

The set-up was direct and quick to the point.

Was it the most exciting? Nope, but sometimes we need the build-up and facts if something big is coming.

From all of Percival’s big twists, his coming from Rivervale was the most surprising. Did anyone expect Rivervale to come back like this?

It all makes sense why no one could find any information on him or why he wasn’t part of the Pickens’ family tree in Riverdale.

His witchy connection to the town and his past could’ve only worked in Rivervale, especially since magic and the paranormal weren’t a thing for many seasons. He had to have brought it with him.

What are you, a wizard? Is everyone in this universe a wizard?

Jughead

Riverdale may not be consistent with its character development, romance, or writing, but it does a great job connecting its plot threads and tying everything together.

Percival’s arrival makes sense for why magic and the supernatural became a thing in this reality. We already figured he had to be involved, so this confirmed many theories for why the influences suddenly happened.

The same goes for his revenge plot and the ghost train.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an outlandish idea and one that takes too much effort to get done. If he wanted to conquer Rivervale/Riverdale, he could easily do that without a ghost train.

Still, it makes sense that it’s another case of someone lashing out against Riverdale’s founders for their actions.

Abigail Blossom felt betrayed by her fellow townsfolk. Percival Pickens was still in his feelings, albeit he was totally at fault for calling up the devil. They’re not the same; Percival needs to get over it and realize he was the villain.

Is anyone else ecstatic that Betty found peace and got cleansed?

Ever since Riverdale Season 1, she had been carrying so much baggage about Dark Betty and her inner darkness. Despite how many people tried to help her, Betty always feared her darkness.

Her scenes with Polly were some of the best family moments that Riverdale has done in a long while. No soapy drama, no anger; it was just tenderness and loving family time.

Betty: I’m so sorry! I’m so sorry for everything. I’m so sorry for the fight that we had. That I wasn’t a better sister to you, and that I wasn’t able to protect you or save you.
Polly: Betty, none of that matters now. All of that pain, all of that suffering just fell away.

I’m not sure if Polly washing Betty’s feet was what cured Betty, but I have a feeling it was also the internal work that Betty did to forgive herself. Polly led her down the path, and Betty allowed herself to believe that she was worthy of love and happiness.

It was a long time coming, but her seeing her golden glow was a beautiful moment.

Jughead and Tabitha’s trip to Rivervale could’ve been more exciting than it ended up being. Sure, we needed the fact-finding part, but we needed them to explore how Rivervale was different.

Come on, Jughead discovers he can jump through portals, and there’s a supernatural world? The spooky adventures were waiting for them.

I want a land that I rule as I see fit. Where my enemies are at my mercy. I want a land controlled by the dark arts, free from the laws that stifle the rest of this country. The Sovereign State of Percival! That’s what I want Riverdale to be. A wild untamed land where I control it all, every last bit. Even the dead.

Percival Pickens

At least we got the introduction of The Super Teens and an Ethel cameo.

Just like Percival, the twist of the comic books and getting their powers made sense. Comic books have played a big part on Riverdale Season 6, so making it the origin of their powers fits right at home in this new reality.

Maybe their future will change if Rivervale Jughead decides to betray Mr. Cypher and draw something else? It seems like the only possible way to avoid their deaths this time.

Last Thoughts From Sweetwater River:

  • Do you think Alice, Frank, and Tom are dead? Jughead’s voiceover said it was real, but it could be a ploy by Percival.

  • Please don’t have Tabitha break up with Jughead because of Bunker Jughead’s actions. We don’t need Jughead to still be in love with Betty.

  • So Bunker Jughead calling to warn Betty and Archie about the explosion was what caused the fissure? It’s a slight twist, but it could explain how Percival ended up in Riverdale.

Now, over to you, Riverdale fans.

What did you think of “Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: Return to Rivervale”?

Is Betty truly cured of the serial killer gene? Did Archie blowing up the train tracks delay the apocalypse? Will the group stop Percival from taking over the living and the dead?

Channel 4 Greenlights Boris Johnson Landmark From ‘Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story’ Producer 72 Films; ITV Working Class Target; ‘The Control Room’ Deals – Global Briefs

Channel 4 Greenlights Boris Johnson Landmark From ‘Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story’ producer 72 Films

Channel 4 has greenlit a landmark documentary about disgraced UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson from prolific Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story producer 72 Films. The indie has gained access to rare archive footage for Boris (working title) and spoken with those with intimate knowledge of Johnson to chart his story across four episodes, from his meteoric rise to power to the extraordinary events of his premiership to his downfall over the past fortnight. The series will also divulge how the seeds of political rivalries still being felt in British politics all began in the corridors at Eton, where Johnson beat former Prime Minister David Cameron to the prestigious role of School Captain. Johnson became UK Prime Minister with a huge mandate to “Get Brexit done” in late 2019 but resigned 10 days ago following several scandals and the resignation of more than 50 MPs. “However the story of Boris Johnson’s political career ends he has done more to change Britain and the nature of our politics than any other recent political figure,” said Channel 4 Chief Content Officer Ian Katz. “This landmark series will try answer the question of what shaped the boy who wanted to be king of the world and how he grew to believe that he could escape the laws of political gravity.” Deadline revealed in April that 72 Films is making a similar documentary about Elon Musk.

ITV Sets Working Class Target

UK network ITV has pledged to increase its number of working class employees to 33% by 2025, launch disability access passports and proceed with a range of diversity initiatives as it unveils its Diversity Acceleration Plan Report 2022. The report details progress made so far two years on from the launch, along with the next phase. The socioeconomic 33% target is the first time ITV has had such an aim and comes as the Love Island broadcaster publishes intersectionality data for the first time, with working class representation currently at 30%. Other initiatives to be prolonged to 2025 include Step Up 60, which gives people in mid-level roles from underrepresented backgrounds the opportunity to work on ITV shows. “We want to create and showcase content by, with and for everyone, connecting and reflecting modern audiences,” said Ade Rawcliffe, ITV Group Director of Diversity and Inclusion. “We have more to do to become an anti-racist, anti-ableist organisation. The structural inequalities we see across society and the broadcasting industry are being addressed at  ITV too and we’re working to be part of the solution.”

‘The Control Room’ From ‘Sherlock’ Producer Hartswood Sells Worldwide

Following season one premiere last night, BBC thriller The Control Room from Sherlock producer Hartswood Films has sold to several European territories along with Australia and China. In Europe, the three-part thriller will air in the Netherlands on public broadcaster NPO, in Spain on Comunidad Film, and in Ireland on Virgin Media Television, while Dazzler Media has acquired home entertainment rights in the UK and Ireland. BBC Studios has taken for Australia along with ABC for second window and Chinese streamer Pumpkin Film has also acquired the show. Distributor All3Media International struck the deals for the thriller, which launched on BBC One last night to 3.2M viewers. The Control Room comes from BAFTA-winning writer Nick Leather and follows Gabe, played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s Iain De Caestecker, who works as an emergency call handler for the Scottish Ambulance Service in Glasgow. His world is turned upside down when he receives a desperate life-and-death call from a woman who appears to know him.
