Quantum Leap’s Scott Bakula Explains “Difficult Decision” To Pass on Reboot

Ever since NBC’s Quantum Leap reboot was announced, there were questions about whether original series star Scott Bakula would sign up.

Now, we have our answer.

Bakula confirmed that he was approached for the series in January in a statement posted to Instagram Thursday afternoon.

“To Quantum Leap fans around the world, in an effort to quiet the rumors and move on… . First of all, thanks for hanging around through the decades,” the post begins.

“Here’s the simple version of what’s going on with the Quantum Leap reboot and me: . I have no connection with the new show, either in front of the camera or behind it.”

The star elaborated:

In January, the pilot was sold and a script was sent to me because the character of Sam Beckett was in it, which makes sense, right?

As so many of you have been asking me the last several months, “How could you do QL without Sam?“ (or Al, for that matter). Well, I guess we’re about to find out.

“That’s the story,” Bakula continued.

“As the show has always been near and dear to my heart, it was a very difficult decision to pass on the project, a decision that has upset and confused so many fans of the original series.”

“However, the idea of anyone ‘leaping’ around in time and walking a mile in someone else’s shoes, remains a very appealing concept and so worthy of exploration, especially given the current state of mankind.”

“In that spirit, I am crossing my fingers that this new cast and crew are lucky enough to tap into the magic that propelled the original Quantum Leap into the hearts and minds of generations past and present. . I wish them good luck and happy leaping!”

So, there we have it.

Bakula will not be stepping back into the role any time soon.

NBC’s new iteration premieres Monday, September 19 at 10/9c.

Raymond Lee headlines the reboot.

Jamie Foxx Vampire Movie ‘Day Shift’ Wins Subdued Week On Nielsen Chart; Streaming Again Grabs Biggest Share Of Viewing In August

Jamie Foxx vampire movie Day Shift, in its second week of availability on Netflix, topped a subdued field on Nielsen’s streaming chart for the week of August 15-21.

While no title cracked the 1 billion mark in terms of minutes of viewing, total streaming continued its precedent-setting dominance as a portion of the overall viewing pie. In its monthly snapshot, The Gauge, Nielsen said streaming accounted for 35% of all viewing in August. It held an edge over broadcast and cable TV for the second straight month after having reached that tipping point in July for the first time in history. (See the full Gauge chart below.)

The weekly rankings were the first since April without a single title north of 1 billion. At 957 million minutes of viewing, Day Shift surpassed The Sandman (No. 2 with 946 million) and Stranger Things (in third with 919 million). Starring Jamie Foxx, Dave Franco and Snoop Dogg, Day Shift drew an audience that was 55% multicultural, Nielsen said, with 25% of it African-American, the biggest such share for any title this week.

Only a tiny fraction of House of the Dragon‘s premiere on HBO Max on August 21 got tallied because of the format of the Nielsen chart, which measures streaming from Monday through Sunday. That cutoff meant that only the three hours of streaming in the Eastern time zone were captured. Even so, the Game of Thrones prequel racked up 327 million minutes of viewing over that short period. In a release accompanying the numbers, Nielsen said it expects the show to “settle in as a regular over the coming weeks.”

Streaming numbers reflect viewing only via a TV screen for HBO Max, Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video and Apple TV+.

Aside from Bluey on Disney+, which finished No. 8, Netflix controlled the entire top 10. Newer entries included new seasons of coming-of-age drama Never Have I Ever and sports docuseries Untold. The latter featured a buzzy episode centering on the catfishing scandal involving former Notre Dame and NFL football player Manti Te’o.

Below is the full top 10. Unless otherwise noted, all titles are on Netflix.

Day Shift – film, 957 million minutes of viewing
The Sandman – 11 episodes, 946M min.
Stranger Things – 34 eps., 919M min.
Never Have I Ever – 30 eps., 883M min.
NCIS – 354 eps., 810M min.
Locke & Key – 28 eps., 776M min.
Grey’s Anatomy – 396 eps., 702M min.
Bluey (Disney+) – 112 eps., 681M min.
Untold – 7 eps., 630M min.
Virgin River – 42 eps., 629M min.

And here is the August snapshot from The Gauge:

Emmys 2022 a Black and White Fashion Affair Behind the Scenes

Criminal Minds Revival: First Look!

After being in development hell for such a long time time, the production on Criminal Minds: Evolution is moving at a quick pace.

Paramount+ has unveiled four photos that are taken from the first two episodes back, and we are very excited about what’s to come.

While the show had a series finale on CBS, the universe still had plenty of storytelling directions to take the characters.

Now, we’re getting our wish.

“The FBI’s elite team of criminal profilers come up against their greatest threat yet, an UnSub who has used the pandemic to build a network of other serial killers,” reads the logline for the 10-episode series.

“Now, as the world opens back up, the network goes operational, and our team must hunt them down, one murder at a time.”

The confirmed returning cast is Paget Brewster (as Prentiss), Joe Mantegna (Rossi), A.J. Cook (JJ), Kirsten Vangsness (Garcia), Aisha Tyler (Tara), and Adam Rodriguez (Luke).

Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney will not be returning.

Zach Gilford recently joined the cast as the big bad Elias Voit.

Volt is described as “an operations analyst for a global cyber-security firm who has a dark side and obsession with death.”

The series has had a long road to the screen, with cast members hinting that it would never materialize.

Thankfully, we got a confirmed series order earlier this year and the show is on track for a fall debut.

“For 15 seasons, CRIMINAL MINDS was at the forefront of cutting-edge scripted drama as it explored the psychology behind crime – thrillingly,” said Nicole Clemens, President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series in August.

“The series never stopped evolving during its run, and we are beyond excited to bring it back into a new era with new stories for a new generation of viewers at Paramount+.”

“Erica, the whole cast and creative team are building a season full of new twists that we are sure will electrify audiences.”

The original series was a big hit on streaming, so the desire will be to get many of those eyes on the new season.

It’s still unclear whether the story could continue, but it will hinge on the reception to these new episodes.

Mark Miller, the prolific actor and screenwriter writer best known for Please Don’t Eat The Daisies and Guestward, Ho! has died. His daughter, actress Penelope Ann Miller, confirmed the news on Twitter. He was 97.

Miller portrayed college professor Jim Nash on Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, which ran from 1965-1967 and then in syndication. The NBC-MGM sitcom, which ran for 58 half-hour episodes, was loosely based on the theatrical film of the same name starring Doris Day and David Niven. The series did well initially, but its ratings took a hit in Season 2 when it was moved opposite The Jackie Gleason Show.

Miller had substantial runs on other big shows, most notably Desilu’s Guestward Ho! on ABC in 1960. He played one half of a New York City couple, the Hootens, who relocate to a dude ranch in New Mexico. Guestward Ho! ran for one season alongside The Donna Reed Show on Thursday evenings.

The actor had a 13 episode arc as J.R. Barnett on Days of Our Lives in 1975, another 13 episodes as Howard Jones on NBC’s college-set soap Bright Promise in 1970. He did two episodes of General Hospital in 1965.

Thoughout the ’60s and ’70s, Miller had appearances on many staples of the era: I Spy, The Andy Griffith Show, Alfred Hitchcock Presents , The Patty Duke Show, The Twilight Zone, That Girl, Adam-12, Cannon, Emergency!, Barnaby Jones, Kung Fu, The Waltons, Marcus Welby, The Streets of San Francisco and more.

In the ’80s, Miller wrote episodes for a host of well-known shows including Diff’rent Strokes and The Jeffersons.

On the big screen, Miller wrote the 1995 Keanu Reeves vehicle A Walk in the Clouds, which was directed by Alfonso Arau. He also wrote and starred in 1982’s Savanah Smiles, which featured two of his daughters, Marisa and Savannah, the latter of whom inspired the film.

Miller also starred in dozens of stage productions such as Noël Coward’s Private Lives opposite Grace Kelly, Phillip Barry’s The Philadelphia Story, William Inge’s Bus Stop opposite Elaine Stritch and with Joan Blondell in Dark at the Top of the Stairs.
