‘Behind The Music’ Paramount+ Docuseries To Feature Jennifer Lopez, Boy George, Jason Aldean And Remy Ma

New episodes of Behind the Music featuring Jennifer Lopez, Boy George, Jason Aldean and Remy Ma are coming to Paramount+.

The new installments of the documentary series will hit the streamer on November 29. Additionally, even remastered episodes spotlighting Boyz II Men, Christina Aguilera, Gloria Estefan, Hootie & the Blowfish, Mötley Crüe, Pink and TLC will drop the same day.

A trailer released Friday gives a glimpse into what can be expected from each of the four new episodes — including Aldean opening up about the shooting during his set at the Las Vegas Route 91 Harvest Festival in 2017.

Here are the loglines for the new episodes:

  • After three decades, Jennifer Lopez is at the very top of her game and shows no signs of slowing down. J.Lo reflects on key moments of her iconic career in music, film and fashion while celebrating her present with husband Ben Affleck.
  • Boy George reflects on his meteoric rise from outcast to ‘80s global superstar with Culture Club. A tumultuous love affair, intense fame and addiction almost destroyed his career – but 40 years on, he remains an LGBTQ+ pop icon.
  • Jason Aldean is a small-town kid turned country superstar who never backed down in life, and changed the country music genre forever.
  • Remy Ma shares her journey to becoming the queen of New York hip hop. Her road to fame with the Terror Squad was paved with loss – a prison sentence almost ended it all – but her comeback inspired millions.

For 14 seasons, Behind the Music has provided an intimate look into the personal lives of pop music’s greatest and most influential artists. Since moving to Paramount+, the series has gone behind the scenes into the lives of stars like Bret Michaels, Busta Rhymes, Duran Duran, Fat Joe, Huey Lewis, LL Cool J, New Kids on the Block and Ricky Martin.

The series is executive produced by Bruce Gillmer, Jennifer Demme and Michael Maniaci for MTV Entertainment Studios. Mark Ford and Alex Castino executive produce for Creature Films, alongside Tara Long for Entertainment One.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver Claims Kyrie Irving Is Not Anti-Semitic After Sit-Down With Troubled Star

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is not saying troubled Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving is anti-semitic.

In an interview Thursday with the New York Times, Silver talked briefly about his meeting with Irving this week at the NBA’s office in Manhattan. The meeting followed a series of events where Irving promoted a film that contained anti-semitic tropes, then refused to apologize for that in a meaningful way. Irving is now suspended and has to meet six steps of contrition before he can be reinstated.

“We had a direct and candid conversation,” Silver said.“He’s someone I’ve known for a decade, and I’ve never heard an anti-semitic word from him or, frankly, hate directed at any group.”

But Silver added, “Whether or not he is anti-semitic is not relevant to the damage caused by the posting of hateful content.”

Silver talked to The Times after speaking at a conference in Washington, his first public appearance since the Irving incident started. He declined to elaborate on the discussion with Irving, citing an agreement to keep their talk private.

The commissioner did say at the conference that Amazon bore some responsibility for hosting the film on its platform.

“I think Amazon has to make decisions as well,” Silver said. He later added, “My first instinct wasn’t that something, to me, that is so frankly vile and full of hate speech would be contained within Amazon Prime.”

Silver said at the event that the social media post had done “enormous damage” to Irving and “potentially” to the team and the league.

On Thursday, more than 200 entertainment figures signed an open letter to Amazon urging it to remove the “Hebrews to Negroes” film that Irving promoted and the book it is based on from the platform.

“I feel that we got to the right outcome here in terms of his suspension,” Silver said. “And in retrospect, we may have been able to get there faster. I accept that criticism. But I felt it was important to understand the context in which it was posted to understand what discipline was appropriate, not in any way to excuse it but to understand what discipline was appropriate.”

The Nets will decide when Irving can return to the team “in consultation with the league,” Silver said.

But some players are starting to wonder if Irving’s punishment was too harsh. Among them is Lakers forward LeBron James.

“I told you guys that I don’t believe in sharing hurtful information,” James said in a Thursday tweet. “And I’ll continue to be that way, but Kyrie apologized and he should be able to play, That’s what I think. It’s that simple. Help him learn — but he should be playing. What he’s asked to do to get back on the floor I think is excessive.”

James said of Irving, “He’s not the person that’s being portrayed of him.”

Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 8 Spoilers: Maggie Flirts With Danger

Don’t do it, Maggie!

Her relationship with Ben is already on the rocks because of his jealousy of Grant, and now that Vanessa’s not in town, there is little reason for Maggie to spend time with Vanessa’s father.

But things will go from bad to worse on Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 8 when Maggie takes a literal trip down memory lane in Grant’s car and gets into an accident!

This is a bad idea for Maggie for so many reasons.

She’s in a vulnerable place at the moment. She misses Vanessa, and Ben doesn’t seem to understand why the daughter who only came into Maggie’s life two years ago is so important to her.

Grant does understand that, and he’s exploiting the existence of their shared daughter to worm his way back into Maggie’s life. Maggie has told him that she’s happily married, but that hasn’t stopped him from wanting to be with her.

And now, Ben’s jealousy has led to a rift between him and Maggie. That leaves Maggie even more lonely.

If she’s anxious about her marriage, the last thing she needs is to go anywhere with Grant for “old times’ sake.”

But she’s also more open to his advances because she feels so lost.

Maggie probably thinks she can get away with taking a short trip and telling Ben later, if at all. But the accident she gets into looks serious; there’s no hiding what she was up to after that!

A clip in the spoiler video depicts someone sideswiping the car while Maggie screams for Grant to look out. The crash occurs on the vehicle’s passenger side; Maggie is likely to sustain serious enough injuries to be taken to the hospital.

If Maggie’s life hangs in the balance after this, Ben could react in two ways. He could realize how close he came to losing Maggie and decide to let go of this conflict, or he could get even angrier that she risked her life while out with his rival.

Chances are, he’ll do both.

Ben will probably initially be upset to learn that Maggie was in a serious accident, but when he finds out Grant was involved, he’ll see red.

He might confront Grant, and it could get physical. Like any soap opera, Chicago Med sometimes indulges in fistfights between supposedly grown men. Of course, Chicago Med security won’t be happy about that, and Sharon probably won’t be either.

Once Maggie is out of danger, there will probably be consequences for her marriage too.

At the very least, she and Ben will need to talk seriously about the wedge Grant has put between them and where they go from here. The timing sucks, especially if Maggie is seriously injured, but neither of them will want to wait.

Maggie’s drama is only a tiny part of what’s happening during Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 8.

Will and Marcel work together again, this time to facilitate a trans-organ exchange.

This type of organ donation, in which multiple people donate parts of organs to one another to benefit everyone, can help people get needed organs and shorten waiting times for transplants. However, it also raises ethical questions about whether these donations are appropriate and freely given.

Marcel’s newfound fame gives him more clout with the hospital board and with transplant specialists in general. He’s already been invited to replace Blake, who is still in poor health, at a conference; he can use this opportunity to convince decision-makers to allow the trans-organ exchange to move forward.

Marcel has been reluctant to embrace his status as a well-known surgeon, and he may be even more conflicted now that he knows he’s been asked to speak because Blake had to bow out.

As recently as Chicago Med Season 8 Episode 7, Marcel was blaming himself for Pamela’s injuries; he may feel he doesn’t deserve to go to the conference in her place.

Will is also involved in the trans-organ exchange, and he might push Marcel to go to the conference and get the approvals they need. Could Will push Marcel too hard?

Marcel could also ask Jack for help. Jack is grateful for Marcel’s support with the train accident, has a lot of money, and has used it to help out the hospital before. Sharon doesn’t like the idea of depending on Jack, and Marcel probably doesn’t either, but as a last resort, Jack could use his influence to make this happen.

Meanwhile, Choi and Archer expose a fraudulent doctor!

There are few spoilers telling us what this is about. We went down this path with Will and Matt Cooper not long ago; will this story tie into that one, or will this doctor commit a different type of fraud?

Choi has been trying to let go of his previous rigid adherence to rules, and Archer ignores guidelines whenever he feels it’s appropriate, so it’s anyone’s guess what these two will do with any information they discover.

Finally, Cuevas and Charles work with a sexual assault survivor.

This could be a powerful story if done well.

Sexual assault is too often used as a plot device instead of written with the sensitivity the situation requires; however, Chicago Med is a Dick Wolf show, as is Law & Order: SVU, so this story will likely be better than most.

If the survivor is female, they may feel more comfortable with Cuevas, which could be frustrating for Charles but also lead to important conversations about how hospitals handle these types of cases.

There may also be questions about whether the patient wants to report the assault. If they do, it might lead to the first post-Jay Chicago PD crossover.

‘The Watcher’ Lands Another No. 1 Nielsen Finish For Ryan Murphy; ‘Halloween Kills’ Cracks Top 10 On Peacock

The Watcher cruised to a win in Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of October 10 to 16, giving producer Ryan Murphy his second top show less than a month after the release of the blowout hit Dahmer.

With 2.355 billion minutes of streaming, the series more than doubled the viewership of runner-up The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Prime Video.

Based on a true story and, loosely, on a New York magazine article, The Watcher stars Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge and Mia Farrow. The thriller series was co-created by Ian Brennan along with Murphy, whose rich overall deal with Netflix has recently started to bear fruit. One additional tweak by Netflix helped the show rack up even more viewership given Nielsen’s Monday-through-Sunday methodology: a release on a Thursday, not the usual Friday berth. Illustrating the potency of Netflix’s algorithm, about 36% of Watcher viewers had also seen Dahmer.

NBCUniversal streaming service Peacock made its debut on the Nielsen chart with the day-and-date release of Halloween Kills. The 13th installment in the Halloween franchise drew 717 million viewing minutes in its opening weekend, at the same time it was collecting $49.4 million at the theatrical box office. The streaming audience made the title No. 8 on Nielsen’s overall chart and No. 1 on the all-movie list. About 35% of the film’s audience was between the ages of 35 and 49 and 25% was 18 to 34. The gender split was and even between male and female.

Not far behind Halloween Kills at No. 9 on the chart was another original movie, mystery thriller Luckiest Girl Alive with Mila Kunis. The Netflix release drew 696 million minutes of streaming.

In a closely watched fantasy series battle, Rings of Power put some distance between itself and HBO Max’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Rings, which dropped its season finale, gathered a bit more than 1.1 billion minutes of streaming for its eight episode, compared with Dragon‘s 960 million minutes for nine episodes. The shows had been trading places over the past two months, though the comparison is inexact given Dragon‘s vast linear audience and multiple showtimes. It has averaged 29 million viewers a week, ranking as HBO’s top new original.

Nielsen’s weekly streaming ratings track viewership in the U.S. only via a TV screen (meaning mobile is not counted) for Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Peacock and Prime Video.

Here is the full top 10, with provider, title, number of episodes (1=movie) and total minutes of viewing:

Netflix The Watcher 7 2.355B
Prime Video The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power 8 1.137B
Netflix Dahmer 10 1.108B
HBO Max House Of The Dragon 9 960M
Netflix The Blacklist 196 906M
Netflix The Midnight Club 10 867M
Netflix Cocomelon 18 723M
Peacock Halloween Ends 1 717M
Netflix Luckiest Girl Alive 1 696M
Netflix NCIS 339 663M

The Imperfects: Cancelled by Netflix; Sci-Fi Series Not Getting Second Season

The Imperfects TV show on Netflix: canceled, no season 2

(Netflix)

There won’t be a second season for this “coming of rage” series. The Imperfects has been cancelled by Netflix.

A sci-fi series created by Dennis Heaton and Shelley Eriksen, The Imperfects TV show stars Italia Ricci, Iñaki Godoy, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Rhianna Jagpal, and Rhys Nicholson. In the story, three twenty-somethings from Seattle — scientist Abbi (Jagpal), comic artist Juan (Godoy), and singer Tilda (Campbell) — were turned into monsters against their will by evil scientists. Now, they’re on the hunt for the responsible madman, Dr. Alex Sarkov (Nicholson), in hopes of reversing the side effects. They’re joined on their quest by scientist Dr. Sydney Burke (Ricci).

The Imperfects launched on September 8th with 10 episodes. It debuted at third place on Netflix’s Weekly Top 10 for English-language series. The drama spent a total of three weeks on the list, but the streamer apparently wanted more since the show has been cancelled.  Renewal decisions are said to be based on balancing production costs with viewership.

What do you think? Did you watch The Imperfects TV series on Netflix? Are you disappointed that this show has been canceled and won’t see a second season?

‘The Good Fight’ Creators Break Down Series Finale; Tease Spin-Off Possibilities

SPOILER ALERT: The following story reveals major plot points from the series finale of Paramount+’s The Good Fight.

The date was September 22, 2009 when viewers were first introduced to the character of Diane Lockhart in the CBS series The Good Wife, portrayed by Christine Baranski. Now, 13 years later, Diane walks off into the sunset one last time—at least for now—as the show’s streaming spinoff The Good Fight says goodbye after 6 seasons on Paramount+.

Everyone on the series was really put through the ringer this season, much like most of the world the last two and a half years. Diane, Liz Reddick (Audra McDonald), Marissa Gold (Sarah Steele), Jay DiPersia (Nyambi Nyambi), and Carmen Moyo (Charmaine Bingwa), among others, spent a lot of time in their law office where they were safe from the violence just outside their building where civil war loomed.

From her desk, Diane imagined a future far away from court, Donald Trump, and the NRA, specifically in a breathtaking villa in France. But could she walk away from the life and career she built, as well as all the people she’s helped following in the footsteps of her heroes like Ruth Bader Ginsberg? There were certainly clients who made that decision difficult like Felix Staples (John Cameron Mitchell)— who hilariously wanted to bring down Ron DeSantis by alleging that the Florida Governor had sexually assaulted him. I mean, where did that stain on the red “Florida is for Lovers” t-shirt come from anyway?

The Good Fight Finale

And could she walk away from her husband Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole)? She abruptly dumped him citing their political differences, but is this really it? Yes, she’d been indulging in a flirtation with her handsome Buddhist doctor Lyle Bettencourt (John Slattery) but she certainly wasn’t sure things were really done with Kurt. Little did she know that her two favorite guys found one another and she would be forced to choose —fate is funny that way.

Kurt saw Diane appear on some news footage showing the melee outside her office building that convinced him to quit the NRA to be with his beloved. At reception, he learns the elevator is broken and while seated at a nearby bench figuring out what to do, the silver fox Lyle arrives and reveals he too is there to see Diane. Both make their way to the stairs for an old fashion climb up many flights of stairs as if they were going to save Rapunzel. But this princess didn’t need saving after all, but she did indeed pick her prince—Kurt, obviously. If only the United States could learn to put politics aside and learn to just love one another like these two.

The Good Fight, Finale

Diane and Kurt make a great team but her bond with Liz is something of pure magic. They’re two strong and capable women determined to leave the world better than they found it. With all of her father’s achievements, I dare say Liz has never really been in his shadow. She is her own woman and a beacon for the Black community in her own right. If the show had continued, seeing her work alongside Carmen would have been a treat. They brought to the table different approaches to their work like two sides of the same coin—oh, and so fearless.

More of Carmen and Jay DiPersia (Nyambi Nyambi) would’ve been brilliant too. But alas, Jay will continue his work with Renetta Clark (Phylicia Rashad) and Randy Elkin (Daniel Breaker), which honestly is the spin-off ripe for the picking. With Carmen opting not to join Jay’s endeavors, she should always team up with Marissa, the duo poised to be the next Liz and Diane, maybe even greater.

The Good Fight Finale

After all is said and done, Liz gives Diane a pep talk that convinces Liz to take the job in D.C. running a law firm recently acquired by STR Laurie—fighting the good fight.

Everyone’s story ties up neatly by the time viewers see Trump’ silly dance moves as the final beats of the episode tease he plans to run again for President with the Village People start singing YMCA in the background. Yes, that’s really how the series ends.

Robert and Michelle King spoke to Deadline about saying goodbye, why the show ends with Trump and the Village People, and possible spin-off series.

DEADLINE: Saying goodbye after 13 years can’t be easy. What has that been like?

ROBERT KING: You know what, I directed the last episode and it was hard. It was hard because every two or three days someone would wrap shooting. Like, Gary Cole was near the beginning of the schedule and I was like, “Oh my God, this is very real,” especially when you have actors who were there from the very beginning. But we recently had the finale screening and I got to see everyone and it was so nice; now I don’t feel sad anymore. It was really good to see so many of them. I have a feeling we’ll work with them again. I don’t know why, but I have a feeling we’ll see them again.

MICHELLE KING: We had slightly different emotional reactions to it. I was just grateful we were able to end the story in a way I actually feel good about. I hope people enjoy it. I will definitely miss these characters. I will miss the ability to process the news with the writers because they are so very smart. But the people we worked with, I anticipate being able to stay in touch with them. So my hope is that I won’t have to miss them because they’ll remain in my life.

DEADLINE: What’s it been like going on this journey with Diane for 13 years?

MK: What’s been nice about the exploration of Diane Lockhart is when we met her, it was through the eyes of Alicia Florrick [Julianna Margulies] when she was a far more intimidating presence. And then over these 13 years, we’ve gotten much more inside of her. And while she’s never lost her strength, we’ve gotten to see her vulnerability. We see her try to cope with difficult times that she never anticipated.

RK: I think also this year what made an added poignancy to it is we know a lot of powerful women or women in business and they have been very thrown by how little power they have in the field that matters to them the most. Like in regards to abortion and female rights. I think the end for us was Diane tapping into who those women, who they are, and what they’re struggling with right now.

The Good Fight, Finale

DEADLINE: The Diane and Kurt relationship this season felt like it was all about bipartisan love. What say you?

RK: You know that we went around the room almost every week,” Okay, what are we thinking?” And that dial kept moving. There’s no way they could be together given the current environment, right? Then it would come around, “But I wish they could because I like Gary Cole.” [Laughs] I think it was always this feeling that it would be really shitty not to leave the audience with that, even though it’s a controversial decision. Kurt, even though he’s not in the NRA, or at least running it, he is the Republican preacher that he always was and a very conservative one.

MK: I am glad that they are looking to make their marriage work.

DEADLINE: The world really needs to know what Felix put on that stained shirt.

RK: My guess, because Felix is based on Milo Yiannopoulos, is that it’s his own… I don’t think it’s ice cream which was guessed. I don’t know what the prop people did but they kept sending us pictures of placement because we wanted it to seem like it was coming off the end of Florida. It’s not one the highlights of our experiences on the show, but very appropriate for the last episode. Find out where the sperm should land on this t-shirt, Florida for lovers.

DEADLINE: What can you share regarding Jay’s future? You really left us wanting more. Do you see a spin-off potential here?

MK: Jay’s story is an example of the aspirational part of the show. The thought that there is this group that is so competent and is is finding justice behind the scenes.

RK: We did something in the third season about the Book Group, which was a group of women who wanted to use Trump’s methods against him. Diane became a part of it. It was a little bit like when you bring guerrilla actions you actually become the thing you hate and we wondered if that’s always the case. We talked about it in the writers room, if there was any way to have a guerrilla effort that can both succeed and be aspirational? I agree, there is a spin-off there.

DEADLINE: As an OG watcher, it was great to see some familiar faces return and others, like David Lee [Zach Grenier] get their comeuppance. Is there anyone else you wish you could’ve had back?

MK: We got the folks we were aiming to get and there wasn’t further conversations on that.

RK: We didn’t want it to be a big goodbye review where people kind of kept trouncing through the set in that way to say goodbye. You kind of want to find stories that suited them. And even then, it would have been nice to even see more of Carrie Preston because we love Elsbeth. At a certain point you just run out of time with what you can do within 10 episodes.

DEADLINE: Was it just me or was there a romantic spark between Liz and Ri’Chard?

MK: That’s interesting. I did not think of them finding a romance.

RK: You know why I thought it did, when you see her sitting on the floor of his house and there’s this kind of chemistry that feels a little romantic. But also you this sense that he tends to do that with women. But I thought there was something there. Again, we didn’t think we were going there because we didn’t want to write a check that we couldn’t cash because of the episodes we had. So it felt like this was a friendship of peers who don’t want to throw off the work relationship. Also, because of the way it was with Adrian [Delroy Lindo] since there was a romantic end to it.

The Good Fight Finale

DEADLINE: You ended the series with a funny video of Trump and the song YMCA. Tell me about that decision.

MK: It felt like we needed to get back to the politics that started the show and that ran throughout it. We also didn’t want to end on a sentimental beat because there’s a fair amount of sentiment earned.

RK: We always want to play the pessimism of the time but play it with a grin on our face. We wanted to end it with high spirits. When we originally ended it, Michelle said it just kind of dies off. It was with Trump announcing he would run again as it is now but then it fades to black. But then we thought we could just keep playing YMCA while Trump is doing his little “j**rking off two men dance” which is really dopey and silly. It felt like a funny and kind of crude way to end the show with this little Trump dance he does. You know, Trump can’t stand being ridiculed so we thought he would hate this video of him doing his dance. So it’s a really good and high spirited way to end the show.
