A Black Lady Sketch Show will not return for a fifth season, per Deadline. HBO has cancelled the comedy series a few months after the fourth season finished airing.
Robin Thede created and stars in the series, which features “Black women living funny, relatable experiences in a magical reality that subverts traditional expectations.” Gabrielle Dennis, Skye Townsend, Quinta Brunson, Laci Mosley, and Ashley Nicole Black have also starred in sketches across the series’ 24 episode run.
HBO released a statement about the decision to end the series:
For four exceptional seasons of A Black Lady Sketch Show we’ve been thrilled to partner with [Thede] on this groundbreaking, hilarious series. Robin, alongside Hoorae, Jax Media, and the incredible cast and crew, leave an indelible legacy not only in sketch, but in television comedy, and we look forward to continued creative collaboration under her deal with us.”
Thede also spoke about the series coming to a close. She said:
“Thank you to all the immensely talented cast members, guest stars, writers, directors, editors and crew members who have made A Black Lady Sketch Show an Emmy-winning success. I especially want to recognize the Black women and other women of color who excelled in every department at ABLSS. I am also eternally grateful for the support of Issa Rae and Jax Media, Amy Gravitt, Casey Bloys and the entire team at HBO, Max, and Warner Bros. Discovery.”
Fans of Thede’s work may see her return on HBO. She is currently developing a half-hour comedy for the cable network.

Steve-Otaking a plunge from one of London’s famous landmarks has him in hot water with cops … who were waiting for him moments after he splashed into the River Thames.
The “Jackass” star tells TMZ … he’s in England to tape his third comedy special, so on Thursday he jumped off the Tower of London Bridge and was promptly detained by cops.
TMZ obtained video of the crazy stunt, and you see Steve-O counting down in front of a crowd before jumping off the bridge … all while decked out in all sorts of Union Jack gear, including an umbrella.
Steve-O says he spent a good portion of the afternoon in a police car and says cops told him their issue with his stunt is it might encourage others to make suicidal leaps from the famed bridge.
In the end, Steve-O says police let him go, and, as far as he’s concerned, the craziest part wasn’t the jump … it’s the state of the Thames.
Steve-O says the river was absolutely filthy … which probably isn’t a great combo with the new big tattoo he’s sporting on his leg. Dirty water isn’t exactly great for open wounds.
The bridge jump wasn’t Steve-O’s only stunt of the trip … he says he also jumped off one of those famous double-decker buses, which he considered much worse than the bridge jump. Yeah, pavement makes for a tougher landing than water.
You’re welcome, England … for the crash course in entertainment.
The HBO sports talk show features timely issues that go beyond the world of sports. Low ratings are to blame for the cancellation of the series. The series reportedly lost 80% of its lead-in viewership between seasons one and two.
Season two aired earlier this year and was featured on TNT ahead of its NBA doubleheader. That broadcast also had low ratings, and the series never reached the Top 150 for cable shows.
Jones continues to host a podcast at ESPN, though his contract is reportedly not expected to be renewed in August as the network is going through mass layoffs.
What do you think? Did you watch Game Theory with Bomani Jones? Are you sad to hear it will not return for a third season on HBO?

Chances of a second season for Patricia Arquette’s newest show have dried up. Apple TV+ has cancelled her High Desert series, according to the actress and executive producer. The show was created by Nancy Fichman, Katie Ford, and Jennifer Hoppe-House.
A single-camera dark comedy series, the High Desert TV show stars Arquette, Brad Garrett, Weruche Opia, Bernadette Peters, and Rupert Friend. Recurring players include Matt Dillon, Christine Taylor, Eric Petersen, Susan Park, Jeffrey Vincent Parise, Eden Brolin, Carmine Giovinazzo, and Carlo Rota. In the story, Peggy Newman (Arquette) is an on-again-off-again addict. She decides to make a new start after the death of her beloved mother (Peters), with whom she lived in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, California. Peggy makes the life-changing decision to become a private investigator.
The eight-episode season debuted in May and finished being released on June 21st. Less than two weeks later, Apple TV+ has already decided to cancel High Desert. In a video message, Arquette broke the news that the comedy won’t be back for season two.
She said, “A lot of you have asked about High Desert and if there was going to be a second season. So I just wanted to let you know, we just found out that it won’t be coming back. So that’s a sad bummer for all of us. I just want to say, to all of the crew, love you guys. You were wonderful. And the writers and the actors … we just had a blast… Thanks to you all for watching. You can’t win them all. ”
Executive producer Ben Stiller, who has worked with Arquette on several projects in recent years, responded to her message and wrote, “Yes. We are all disappointed. Our entire High Desert cast was amazing and to all our fans, thank you for embracing this show. I LOVE Patricia Arquette, who gave an awards worthy performance. While we wish AppleTV had stuck with it, we’re grateful they made it and it is on the service. And unlike other streamers these days I’m told they will not be removing any shows. So you can enjoy the first season in perpetuity. And feel free to let them know you want more!!”
What do you think? Have you enjoyed the High Desert TV series on Apple TV+? Are you disappointed that the show won’t be back for a second season?

American actress Samaire Armstrong was 22 years old when she first started playing the role of Anna Stern — the cute comic book reader from Pittsburgh with a witty personality — in the teen drama series “The O.C.” back in 2003.
Armstrong was part of an ensemble cast including Mischa Barton as the pretty and troubled teen, Marissa Cooper, Adam Brody as the nerdy comic book guru and Anna’s love interest, Seth Cohen and Rachel Bilson as the materialistic and at times judgmental, Summer Roberts.
Most recently, Samaire ran for mayor of Sedona, Arizona.
The first is what the future will be for the Task Force, and the second is what happens to Raymond Reddington. The former is contingent on the latter because that is how it has always been. There would be no Task Force without Red.
These two issues have been the central theme of The Blacklist Season 10, as Raymond and the Task Force fielded threats from different corners to stay afloat.
It all began with Wujing’s return on The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 1 with the sole mission of seeing Reddington fall and the Task Force with him.
After a game of wits, Raymond emerged on top, but that would not last long because someone else set their sights on the Task Force instead of Reddington.
Arthur Hudson launched his campaign against them, and he’s been making huge strides that would not bode well for the Task Force.
Elsewhere, Raymond prepared for the future.
We have seen him do things he has never done before, including giving out stuff for free and offering up some of his most lucrative enterprises.
The Morgana Logistics Corporation (The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 17) saw him give up his shipping business, while Room 417 (The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 19) saw him give up his intelligence network.
He had prioritized spending time with the people he cared about in his life.
All these things would signal that he was preparing for the end and knew what it would look like.
There is not much left for the show to tackle now apart from these two pressing issues, and spoilers for The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 20 tease just that.
Arthur Hudson managed to get a very damning recording for the Task Force and Harold Cooper. In the recording, Harold admitted to having participated in treasonous plans while working with Reddington.
It had been what Arthur was after, and armed with it, he could convince anyone to look into the task force.
And he succeeds.
He is allowed entrance into the Post Office, and with the FBI agent he allied himself with on The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 17, they search for evidence of the wrongdoings of the Task Force.
That means no one works on any case and is allowed to leave the Post Office. As Hudson and his people did through the Post Office’s systems, Ressler, Dembe, and everyone else who works there sit down and wait with bated breath.
It is worth remembering that Raymond used the Hexroot program on The Blacklist Season 10, Episode 9 to delete or redact any evidence of his involvement with the Task Force.
While that might not have been good for him as it rendered his agreement with Main Justice inexistent, maybe he foresaw the future and helped them without their knowledge.
Arthur might not find anything incriminating.
In fact, all he might find are all the recent wins the Task Force has racked up in the weeks past.
As that happens in the Post Office, Cooper is called upon to answer some questions.
Even if the Task Force is not overseen heavily by the government like most other task forces are, they are still under the guidance of the Attorney General. If anything goes wrong, they are answerable to them.
And the Attorney General needs answers.
When Cooper is called upon to answer questions, he usually feels very confident because the trappings of good work are visible.
Yet, a lot has gone wrong in the last few months it doesn’t inspire confidence.
Things don’t go so well this time, as he gets caught on the defensive.
At this juncture, anyone with half a brain would do the obvious thing and shut down this task force. To an outsider, the CI has gone rogue, and they cannot bring him back to the table.
It wouldn’t be surprising if the Attorney General wants the Task Force shut down before they do any more damage to the FBI’s reputation.
The task for Harold would be convincing the Attorney General that they are still important and deserve a chance to continue the work. Also, they should not be prosecuted. Cooper will have a lot cut out for him.
One of the things Raymond has prioritized in these last few months is spending time with friends.
It was why he broke Robert Vesco out of prison on The Backlist Season 10 Episode 4. Unfortunately, he was reminded of why that was important because Vesco would not be alive much longer.
Whatever happens with Raymond, he can’t be in the lives of people he cares about in the foreseeable future. Any time he spends with them is precious, and he maximizes that.
Raymond spends the day with Agnes as Harold gets grilled by the Attorney General. They go out for ice cream, each relishing the sweetness of their favorite flavor and the moment.
Finding a loyal person in the business Raymond has been involved in is not easy, and he has been betrayed by more people than one.
Yet one person has never wavered in their support for him. Even in the thickest of Marvin Gerard‘s campaign to end Raymond, they remain steadfast in their support.
Sure, they might complain more than most, and it gets on Raymond’s nerves, but he knows he can count on them.
That person is Heddie Hawkins. She is someone Raymond considers a dear friend, so she visits her.
Is he saying goodbye? “Arthur Hudson” will chart the course of the series finale, so it will be vital.

Claudia Jordan says there’s plenty of money to go around on “Wheel of Fortune” to pay both incoming host Ryan Seacrest and mainstay Vanna White what they deserve … and Ryan shouldn’t have to give up salary to keep Vanna.
The TV and radio host tells TMZ … she’s not in the camp of people online who are calling for Ryan to take less money so the game show can pay Vanna what she’s demanding.
Claudia says it’s not like a pro sports team trying to stay under a salary cap … she says there’s tons of advertising money pouring in, and ‘Wheel’ has plenty in its coffers.
ABC
TMZ broke the story … Vanna is fighting with Sony for a huge raise after only making $3 million a year for the last 18 years … she wants half of Pat Sajak‘s current $15 million paycheck, or else.
Claudia’s well-versed in the game show biz … she was on “Deal or No Deal” and she says women like Vanna are just as important to the shows as guys like Pat and Ryan.
Claudia sees an opportunity here for Vanna to cash in and make up for being underpaid for all those years … and she’s got some advice for her as well.
As Channel 4 continues to add boxsets to its recently rebranded SVoD, which is also called Channel 4, the network has taken the 10 Disney series from this month onwards.
Included in the deal are The X Files (1-11), Abbott Elementary (1-2) and Bones (1-12), along with Alias (1-5) and The Americans (1-6) this summer, followed by Empire (1-6), Scandal (1-7), The Killing (1-4), Star (1-3) and Grown-Ish (1-6).
Channel 4 Head of Acquisitions Nick Lee said: “We’re so pleased to have agreed such an extensive content deal with Disney, ranging from their most iconic series and fresh hits. We look forward to our viewers being able to binge series after series on Channel 4.”
Since rebranding the streamer in April, Channel 4 has also struck a deal with NBCUniversal for the likes of Dr. Death, Queer as Folk and Becoming Elizabeth.
The youth-skewing network made the eyebrow-raising decision to change its streamer’s name from All4 to Channel 4 last year and is now the only UK broadcaster whose linear channel has the same name as its streamer.
“By bringing all our shows together under our iconic ‘Channel 4’ brand, we’re making it even easier for audiences, particularly younger viewers, to find and stream the very best telly available in the UK,” said Channel 4 Chief Marketing Officer Zaid Al-Qassab at the time.
