Days of Our Lives Round Table: Should Jarlena Retire Their Strawberries & Cream?

Is our round table team enjoying the Greek adventure, or are they craving something more?

Our TV Fanatics, Jack and Christine, are joined by Tony from MyHourglass, a Days of Our Lives fan forum, to debate Bo and Hope’s return, Li’s next move, Brady’s parenting skills, Rafe and Jada’s future, and more.

And should John and Marlena retire the strawberries and cream? Read on to find out what our round table thinks…

Days Of Our Lives Round Table 1-27-15

Should John and Marlena discontinue their strawberries and cream trope? Are you a fan of this long-term couple?

Jack: I don’t see why it’s necessary for them to discontinue it. It’s part of their romance; why should that change?

I have mixed feelings about this couple. I like their romance but dislike the damsel in distress trope that surrounds them so often. That trope — in which Marlena is constantly kidnapped/missing/in danger, and John has to rescue her — is outdated and uninteresting.

Tony: I see no reason for them to end it. It’s their thing. And yes, I am a fan of theirs.

Christine: There are times it feels overused, but perhaps that’s because it’s been their thing for decades. But it is their thing, and I don’t know what they’d exchange it for.

I’ve been a fan of John/RoJohn since the very beginning. I will say that I don’t feel the emotion from Marlena that I did in previous years, and there are times the character annoys me, but I’ve always loved John, and the two of them belong together.

Are you enjoying Days’ Greek adventure storyline? If not, what would you change?

Jack: For the most part, I am. There are a few little things I would change. For one thing, Paul should have accompanied Andrew on his part of this adventure. It makes no sense for them to agree to get back together if Andrew is going to disappear to Greece or anywhere else and Paul is never going to be seen again.

I also don’t believe Kate is dead and am impatient for them to get to the part where we learn she’s not.

Tony: To a point. It’s nice to see Bo and Hope back, and I understand that there’s going to be a cliffhanger at the end of all this. I just think it’s kind of silly to bring them back and not have them share any scenes together. At least give Bo his proper memories and personality back!

Christine: Overall, yes. It’s been a fun throwback to the adventures of the 1980s and ’90s. And as much as I like Bo being drawn to his Kiriakis side, I want him to spend time with Hope and Steve or his kids.

And where is Kate? I don’t believe she’s dead, and I really want her back.

What will Li do now that EJ has sent him a video of Gabi cheating with Stefan?

Jack: I think Li is going to mess with Gabi now. He’ll refuse to break up with her and give her “another chance” but make the terms even more strict. It’s all about control with him, and Gabi should see it for what it is and walk away.

Tony: I would imagine, probably confront Gabi and/or Stefan.

Christine: I wish he would take his Dimera shares back and walk away, but he still has this delusion that he can win Gabi back. It’s obsessive and creepy.

He’ll probably continue to toy with Gabi, and unfortunately, Gabi and Stefan’s greed seems to be stronger than their love.

Should Brady continue his romantic pursuit of Chloe, and if so, how should he handle Rachel?

Jack: I’m not invested in this couple. However, if Brady is in love with Chloe and wants to date her, his six-year-old should not get to tell him he can’t.

Brady needs to learn how to discipline his brat. Yes, it is important to listen to her feelings, but that doesn’t mean she can express those feelings in any way she pleases.

Brady needs to impose consequences whenever she’s rude, nasty, or tantrum-y and stick to them — no more letting her talk her way out of punishment by saying she hopes he’s not mad or that it’s not fair.

Tony: Brady is way too soft on Rachel. He lets her get away with acting however she wants and hardly disciplines her outside of a halfhearted “go to your room” or “that wasn’t nice.”

Though honestly, I don’t think he should continue to pursue Chloe. Not because of Rachel, but because it’s just getting old now. I used to love Brady and Chloe as a couple, but they’ve had their time. Time for him to move on.

Christine: I wish he wouldn’t, if only because I find them to be one of the more boring couples on the show.

But if he’s going to, there’s no reason for him to expect Chloe and Rachel to act like instant family. Brady can date Chloe and not have Rachel involved.

I won’t even go into Brady’s lack of parenting skills. He seems completely incapable of disciplining his daughter and lets her call all the shots. That doesn’t bode well for his future or hers, whether it includes Chloe or not.

Abe and Talia kept talking about the possibility of Rafe and Jada as a couple. Would you like to see them pursue a relationship despite the new rules at the Salem PD?

Jack: Absolutely not! It’s not because of the rules, which seem to have been put in place for the sole purpose of making it harder for Rafe and Jada to date. I don’t see any chemistry, and I’m still annoyed that Rafe and Nicole imploded for no good reason.

Tony: If they do more than stand around and snark about people they don’t like, sure. In all honesty, I don’t find this pairing all that interesting.

Christine: The only couple Rafe was a part of that I found interesting was way back when he was with Sami. And that’s probably because Sami had enough personality for two characters.

Rafe and Jada have been pretty boring so far, and I don’t expect that will get better if they become romantic.

Do you think Sloan is the person harassing Paulina, or is Paulina harassing an innocent Sloan?

Jack: While I don’t think Sloan is guilty this time, Paulina is not harassing her. Sloan keeps getting in Paulina’s face, then whining that Paulina is bothering her when Paulina stands up for herself.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sloan resents the fact that a Black woman dares stand up to her, either, though this has never been made explicit, so I could be off base there.

Tony: Yes, but I have a feeling it’s going to turn out to be someone totally unrelated. I hope it’s Sloan. She is far from innocent.

Christine: I doubt Sloan trashed Paulina’s office or left that note. And if that’s the case, then Paulina and later Abe, showing up on Sloan’s doorstep or yelling at her in the square is bordering on harassment.

Paulina keeps insisting that Sloan has done all this, but she’s done nothing to help her case by handing the note off to multiple people or telling the police there was no need to fingerprint anything. I expected better from Paulina.

Should Maggie have allowed Alex to pursue the prisms? Is this something Victor would have agreed to?

Jack: Whether Victor would have agreed to it is irrelevant. Maggie is in charge and has good reasons for not wanting Alex to do it. Alex also should not have done it as a “surprise.”

If Victor had come to Maggie with this scheme, she would have shot it down for the same reasons she shot Alex down.

I don’t know if Victor would want these prisms since he saw the value of not having an unnecessary war with the Dimeras, but if he did want them, he’d be way smarter than Alex and would be aware that Maggie would oppose such a deal.

Tony: Maggie is acting the same way she used to when Victor would do something underhanded. I know the show has tried to convince us that Maggie is just a nice old lady who makes lemon bars, but that is far from the only thing there is to Maggie’s character.

She’s tough, and she’s got a backbone. And it’s nice to see her stand up to somebody the same way she used to with Victor.

Christine: Victor likely would have gone after the prisms, but Maggie would have opposed it for all the reasons she gave Alex, and Maggie is the one in charge.

Alex doing this as a “surprise” just shows that he’s still thinking of Maggie as his aunt and not the CEO of the company he works for. Most bosses don’t appreciate surprises, good or bad.

What disappointed you the most this week in Salem?

Jack: I’m annoyed with this Tripp/Wendy/Johnny triangle. Right now, it appears that Wendy has no romantic interest in Johnny. She dismisses their dates as “just watching movies” and views Johnny as a friend, while she is very clearly smitten with Tripp.

That’s not a triangle. The longer it goes on, the worse Wendy looks because, at this point, she’s stringing Johnny along when she’s not interested in him that way. That’s not cool, regardless of her claim that she doesn’t want to hurt him.

Also, Chloe and Brady need to start acting like adults. Rachel may be pushing Chloe’s buttons, but Chloe is the grown-up here. She needs to control herself and not say things like she hates Rachel, no matter how much Rachel pushes her buttons.

And Brady needs to actually discipline Rachel and not take her out for ice cream after telling her to stop misbehaving.

Tony: Any time Gwen and Leo are on is annoying. Same for Sloan.

Christine: Brady taking Rachel out for ice cream after she stole his fun and his Uber account and snuck out to the prison was pretty disappointing.

Also, everyone suddenly pushing Rafe and Jada together. Especially Talia. Jada tells her sister she could be risking her job if she romantically pursues her boss, so Talia then sets them up in a pseudo-date in a public place. Gee, thanks Sis.

What was your favorite quote, scene, or storyline on this week’s Days of Our Lives?

Jack: I’m continuing to love the Greek adventure. I also like Paulina and Chanel standing up to Sloan, and I’m glad Abe tried to talk some sense into Eric.

Tony: While I find parts of it frustrating, I am loving the return of Bo, Hope, and Megan! This whole storyline is fantastic!

Christine: As much as Rachel is a brat, I am enjoying her. She is Kristen’s daughter, and it was fun to see her outsmart Chloe and Brady and then smirk her way out the door.

And Leo looking for Lady Whistleblower stories while Gwen tries to keep him in check may be my new favorite guilty pleasure.

Now it’s your turn, Days fans. Are you enjoying the Greek adventure? Should Marlena and John drop their strawberries and cream (pun intended)? Is Rachel smarter than her father?

Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 17 Review: Smoke and Mirrors

When it comes to Crawford, no good deed of Erin’s will ever go unpunished.

On Blue Bloods Season 13 Episode 17, Erin tried to find out who was spreading rumors about Crawford, only for her boss to snap at her to stop minding her business. And when Erin completed a case file early as part of a peace offering, Crawford didn’t like that either.

Erin may not like attack ads or the mudslinging in today’s political campaigns, but if anyone deserves it, it’s Crawford. Whether or not her husband is having an affair has no bearing on whether she deserves to be the Manhattan DA, but her attitude toward Erin makes me root for Erin to crush her in the polls.

In one sense, Crawford’s irritation was understandable. Erin didn’t need to know how true the rumors were to plug any leaks.

If Anthony had confined his investigation to finding out who was speaking to the press about Crawford’s business, that might have come across better. It also would have been more relevant and not made Crawford think Erin was trying to dig up dirt to torpedo Crawford’s campaign.

Still, Crawford lost the sympathy I had for her after the press conference when she started berating Erin. It was over the top and unprofessional, and she had no business telling Erin how Erin would react to rumors about her and Jack.

Crawford handled that nosy reporter far better than she did Erin! At the press conference, she stayed calm and stood up to the reporter’s nonsense without resorting to personal insults, for the most part.

That last comment about how the reporter ought to find another job will probably become a sound byte played out of context to make Crawford look like a bully who doesn’t believe in freedom of the press. I’d rather Erin try to defend her against that kind of attack than this nonsense.

What do Crawford’s marital problems have to do with her fitness for the DA position? Would these reporters ask male candidates such inane questions?

The campaign storyline has been handled strangely from the beginning. I wasn’t sure Erin was still running; other than when she hired an image consultant, she barely mentioned her campaign.

If Anthony hadn’t tried to tell Erin that personal attacks against Crawford were good news for Erin’s campaign, I’d have assumed she dropped out and was helping Crawford win.

Erin’s sense of integrity was laudable. But Crawford was right about one thing: Erin should have asked her how to help instead of poking around her business.

However, the way Crawford handled it wasn’t great either. Crawford always ascribes the worst motives to Erin, and every time Erin tries to help her, something like this happens.

At least Erin and Crawford bonded somewhat at the end of the hour, but I was over Crawford by then. The moment that stuck out most in my mind was her comment that she didn’t need that file til next week when Erin brought her completed paperwork.

As far as Crawford is concerned, Erin can’t do anything right. Even if she does work ahead of time, it’s not good enough.

Is this a backhanded way of getting viewers to root for Erin to win the election? The sooner we eliminate Crawford and her negative attitude, the better.

Frank’s dilemma was far more compelling, though Frank’s responses shouldn’t have surprised anyone.

Everyone who works with Frank knows he prides himself on his integrity and follows the rules to the letter — even when people he cares about are in trouble.

Garrett shouldn’t have been surprised that Frank was unwilling to bend the rules to help Baker after the way Frnak responded to Garrett’s ordeal on Blue Bloods Season 8 Episode 4.

Garrett: When you say do nothing, you don’t really mean do nothing, do you?
Frank: I don’t know how many ways I can say it.
Garrett: Really? So you’re really not going to do anything to help her?

On that occasion, Garrett felt Frank was too cavalier after Garret became the victim of a “swatting” prank and was attacked in his own home by SWAT team members. Then, as now, Frank put more stock in the rules than in showing support for his friend and colleague.

The only surprise was that Frank doesn’t already follow Danny’s advice to forget what anyone else thought of his decisions. Frank is constantly butting heads with the mayor and the Dream Team because he puts his values ahead of their beliefs.

Frank was right — the Commissioner’s Office couldn’t appear to be influencing investigations against one of their own. That type of behavior erodes public trust in the police and could potentially get Frank into serious trouble.

Nevertheless, I’m glad Frank bent the rules and got Luca to drop the charges. I’m not sure why Luca had a sudden attack of conscience, but it seemed like Frank made him think there might have been security footage floating around that would disprove his claim that Baker started it.

A guy like Luca probably resented being knocked out by a woman, though the story didn’t dive too deeply into his motives. He might have made up the story to get revenge on Abigail for humiliating him.

Meanwhile, Badillo and Eddie handled their stalking case perfectly. Well, except for that I think Badillo planted his mother in the lobby to get Eddie thinking about his great instincts.

They were right that they couldn’t do anything after the initial complaint. The guy wasn’t even in the coffee shop anymore, and there was no proof he was stalking his victim.

Even after catching him in the act the first time, it was hard to know who was telling the truth.

The cops didn’t completely discount the victim’s story while investigating, but they didn’t automatically believe everything she said. That’s the fairest way to handle these allegations- take them seriously unless they’re proven false, but don’t jump to conclusions.

Finally, Jame and Danny teamed up to try to help Bugs, with tragic results.

Bugs has always been a fun character. He’s a quirky confidential informant who isn’t any too bright and always messes up Danny’s case when Danny uses him.

This time, Bugs had a far more dramatic storyline. His characteristic lack of ability to keep his mouth shut had fatal consequences for his brother, and then Bugs lost his temper because of it.

Understandably, he felt Danny betrayed him and Marcus. Danny could have left the bigger investigation alone, but he didn’t, and Marcus died as a result.

That was heartbreaking for Bugs, but I was glad it wasn’t the end of his relationship with Danny. It’s always a good time when Danny’s forced to work with Bugs.

Station 19 Season 6 Episode 13 Review: It’s All Gonna Break

Whew, what a plot twist!!

Outside of the fun shenanigans that involved an underrated trio that I had no idea we needed this much in Bailey, Ben, and Carina, most of Station 19 Season 6 Episode 13 was just okay.

But then they threw that Eli and Travis plot twist at us, and that’s how you get a girl’s attention. Oh, this mess is delectable.

The strongest aspect of the hour was Carina and Bailey teaming up to go to an agenda-pushing facility posing as a women’s health clinic.

This season, it feels as if Station 19 and Grey’s Anatomy have finally figured out how to work together and have cohesive storylines that interconnect.

Grey’s Anatomy has been on one in tackling the attack on women’s rights and healthcare, and they haven’t stayed off the necks of those in opposition.

It’s made for a very socially conscious season that, for once, doesn’t feel overtly preachy or performative. Some of that has also spilled into Station 19, largely through Carina as the connector.

The storylines that have revolved around abortion and these doctors’ tireless work to preserve women’s rights and fight against the injustices imposed on many have made for a compelling, ongoing arc and placed women like Bailey, Carina, and Addison in grave danger.

They’ve stuck their necks out and assumed some serious risks, and it’s cause for concern. We get hints of that when Maya and Ben are determined to get to their wives after a riot gets ugly and almost deadly.

As a result, it wasn’t surprising that Bailey and Carina were on a mission, and it sure as heck wasn’t a shock that Ben, still shaken from the incident at the hospital, took the day off so he could tag along to ensure that Bailey and Carina were okay.

Ben: You two look like you’re about to get into some trouble.
Bailey: We’re not going to get into trouble. We’re going to cause trouble.

Ben was classic Ben during the ordeal. He fell into the trap of doing casual mansplaining about the current issues as if practicing doctors like Bailey and Carina weren’t well aware of all the warnings and factoids he was sharing.

But his heart was in a good place, and his concern was understandable given the circumstances.

Despite some of the subject’s seriousness, Carina, Ben, and Bailey were such a comedic trio that the show could take full advantage of that dynamic more often.

They were hilarious together, especially when Ben became Ben DeLuca, posing as Carina’s husband while Bailey sat there as “just a friend.”

And their constant bickering as they all tried to figure out how to get Nancy to trip up and admit that she wasn’t a medical professional and it wasn’t a healthcare facility was amusing.

Nancy, however, was insufferable. However, credit where it’s due — the woman knew exactly what to and what not to say. She pivoted direct questions with expert precision, never doled out advice or used terminology that implied she was an actual doctor, and skirted around anything that could nail her down.

She was good, too damn good, and it was sickening.

She went out of her way to impose her thoughts and opinions about having the baby once she learned that Carina was pregnant. She’d only use the term “fetus” and cheerfully chirped on about Carina having this baby.

She was visibly disgusted when Carina mentioned an abortion, then turned to everyone else in the room in search of an ally who would agree that Carina needed to have a child.

Ben: How do you do it? How do you lie to vulnerable people?
Nancy: I care about life.

It was awful all around, so it naturally didn’t take long for all the doctors to snap at some point, exposing themselves and getting escorted out of the building after Nancy taunted them with how the taxpayers were supplying a facility like that.

Carina calling in the pro-choice protestors was a nice touch. They could also spend their time diverting future patrons to an actual clinic where they could get balanced treatment and have their desires and autonomy respected.

But the most emotional moment from that hour was when Carina broke down a bit after she faked the positive pregnancy test.

For someone desperate to have a child of her own, it was heartbreaking that the first time she’d see a positive pregnancy test, it was fake and for something like that.

I felt for her at that moment, and it hit you how much Carina sacrifices for what she feels is right and good and the great personal cost it has on her.

On the Marina front, it was sweet to see them wake up together, even if it was supposed to be casual.

And keeping up with Maya’s genuine progress and growth, she bared her heart out at the station. She’s open to doing whatever Carina needs to reassure her.

I could appreciate Maya’s vulnerability and honesty when she spoke about how she was trying to build something on a foundation for them, even if it was unstable.

My first positive pregnancy test, and it isn’t real.

Carina

She could both acknowledge her wrongdoing and where she messed up and failed while expressing how, at the time, she thought she was doing it for them, meaning it came from a sincere place.

She owned and explained her actions without excusing them. It’s not often people nail that distinction.

Somehow, the show manages to put Marina back into an alluring slow burn. Maya asked to date her wife, take her out on a nice one, and it’s their way of easing back into a safe, loving place in their relationship.

It’s such an underrated move to make, and it’s genuinely sweet. The baby thing still lingers over them, but it’ll be much more satisfying if they’re in the best possible place when that moment comes.

Carina DeLuca, will you go on a date with me?

Maya

Of course, one can only hope that the lure of payback or whatever else doesn’t overtake Maya because of Dixon’s offer.

With the full knowledge that if Maya takes the bait, they will have undone all the good work they’ve been putting in, I want to believe that Maya will not proceed to blackmail Ross or report her to the union.

Maya should be so far past that right now, and it’s just bad form. She already came to grips with how messed up it was that she gave Beckett that booze.

But if Dixon already has this dirt, it’ll likely get out whether Maya is involved or not. The question should be, what does he have to gain from this other than seeking revenge on Ross for daring to call his racist ass out for that stunt he and the officers did with that poor boy.

It will be devastating if Ross’ career is ruined or if she has a fall from grace. Ross is a complicated character and occasionally polarizing, but she’s genuinely good people, and she doesn’t deserve ruin.

Things are already complicated between her and Sullivan. From the sounds of Sullivan’s chat with Andy, he’s still in his feelings about her not naming him interim captain, and Andy was puzzled by it too.

Sullivan could understand why Andy declined the offer because she wanted to get the position more permanently because she earned it and not because she’s a backup plan.

But Sullivan was also decent at extending some advice to Theo as he struggled with their first call with him as interim captain.

It was a mess, and the men they were trying to save were annoying.

Theo was all over the place and wavered between being too cocky and too unsure.

But what exactly is happening with Theo? He used to be a very likable character who was compassionate, thoughtful, wise, intuitive, and so much more.

And this season, he’s become an asshole. It’s been creeping in bit by bit, but the worst parts are when he’s interacting with Vic. Their relationship feels randomly and abruptly rocky, and we don’t know why.

You were chosen to be captain for a reason. Trust that!

Sullivan [to Theo]

But he’s treated her terribly, and she wasn’t wrong when she pointed out that something is going on with him, he’s not letting her in, and she genuinely wants to know how she can help.

Theo has been cold, distant, rude, and bordering on cruel with Vic on multiple occasions. It’s such a drastic change from this man who was one of her biggest support systems and how this gentle way of cracking through her barriers.

It’s like the series needs a steady stream of a character randomly becoming a jerk, and once that person gets on track, they pass the dick virus to someone else.

Maya and Jack are finally back to being bearable, and now Theo is on the verge of being insufferable.

Dixon also extended his villain ways to the debate and his smear campaign against Travis.

By now, it’s so apparent he gets off on bullying Travis, and their contents probably see through all of that too.

Travis keeps finding new ways to navigate the political spectrum while still being himself, and it works out to his advantage, and the debate is no exception.

After all that prep for questions and debates about topics he’s not well-versed in, he managed to win the crowd over by fixing a fire hazard and using that situation to deliver a metaphor that was honest about who he is, his inexperience compared to career politicians, and how he plans to make things better.

His earnestness and honesty won the crowd over instantly, and he probably had them in the palm of his hand the whole time.

It was a celebratory moment, but Travis and Eli’s celebration took a surprising turn.

Andy was too little too late getting back to Eli, and now he’s fallen in bed with his client. And you know what? I don’t hate this.

Andy does deserve fun and romance, whether it’s casual or it evolves into something serious.

Andy: Why didn’t Ross ask you to do the job?
Sullivan: Why didn’t she ask you?
Andy: She did, and I said no. I deserve a real promotion. So the real question is, why didn’t she ask you?
Sullivan: You’ll have to ask her.

She deserves love, flirting, and a good guy taking a genuine interest in her. And she should have someone that she’s compatible with and who can balance her out and make things interesting.

Eli, as a prospective relationship for Andy, always felt forced. They didn’t exactly have romantic chemistry, and they didn’t feel like a good match for each other either.

It also didn’t bode well that all of their back and forth never felt like it amounted to much or would get anywhere.

The messy component of this is not knowing how Andy will feel if she learns the truth about Eli and Travis. And I hope it will not strain her and Travis’ relationship.

Andy doesn’t deserve to be hurt, but we hadn’t gotten far enough into whatever Andy and Eli could have been for one to feel that she’d be immensely hurt beyond moving on quickly.

But the situation is messy nonetheless.

It could also have serious ramifications if Dixon somehow finds out and uses it against Travis. I would think that people wouldn’t care about Travis’ love life, but who knows?

And would it make it harder or more awkward for Eli and Travis to work together after they had sex? I don’t know.

But Eli feels like a much better fit for Travis than Andy, and this plot twist is good.

I can 100% get behind an Eli and Travis pairing, and it’s been a minute since Travis has had some romance or fun. Sign me up!

Over to you, Station 19 Fanatics.

Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 18 Review: You Only Die Twice

Ruzek needs out of this Beck case; it’s getting too stressful!

He finally made some headway with the investigation on Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 18, and it made for a nerve-wracking hour that put us one step closer to learning what Beck’s massive plan is.

And we got there because of a brutal, horrific hate crime that’s enough to have anyone with a heart stewing.

The closer Ruzek gets to this Beck case, the more intense things have gotten, and there’s always this touch of fear that this is a case that could jeopardize Ruzek and his family. The concern over what could happen if Richard found out about Mak is enough to leave a person on pins and needles.

Richard Beck is a sick, evil, hateful man. And he’s spawning that in those around him. It seems like Samantha is coming out as more of a victim to her father, who doesn’t want Callum to follow in Richard’s footsteps.

But in many ways, she’s on the verge of fighting a losing battle as Richard adeptly has been grooming the hell out of this kid. It’s eerie to see it happen, and you can see how much it’s killing Ruzek not to interfere with that.

Since Ruzek became a father, he has approached many aspects of the job differently. You can see it in instances like this, how he’s taken to Callum and wants to get that kid-free of his grandfather’s indoctrination sooner rather than later.

Richard’s hold on Dale is another example of how evil this man is. Sure, we know that Dale would be a racist prick all on his own, probably. He was an idiot who spouted off some of the most asinine things.

But he became a loose cannon, and somehow, you know it’s because of the hate Richard has stirred up in him. Dale was the reason that they made this headway in the case, and it came at a tragic cost.

Since the Becks have been on their radar, bodies have dropped gruesomely, but what Dale did to the Raes is one of the most horrific yet.

He had a field day stabbing them in some unprompted rage kill that aligned well with how topical Anti-Asian sentiment and violence rising has been recent.

They were just a sweet couple running a Chinese restaurant and minding their business. Their lives got taken by some unhinged bigot who accused them of taking over the neighborhood and stealing business opportunities from white people.

The moment we saw Dale burning all those bloody clothes, it was apparent that he did something horrendous and barbaric. It meant Ruzek and the others were under a lot of pressure to figure out what that was and then find enough evidence to pin it on him.

The Raes and the community deserved justice, and that poor busboy who will be battling trauma for the rest of his life at least deserved the relief of knowing that they got the man who killed his bosses, who were like parents to him.

It was a deliciously tight and packed hour with great pacing. Despite Ruzek’s position at the forefront because of the undercover work with the Becks, the other characters were utilized well enough, and we got some of the best dynamics.

Burgess and Hailey teaming up again when tracking down the busboy were as great as Kevin warning them to “be careful” in a classic big brother move as they went on their way.

Speaking of Atwater, he and Torres were just deliciously good together. The Oceanwater dynamic remains undefeated, both of them bringing a fun swagger that comes out most when they’re with one another.

Kevin had so many great lines and moments during the hour. In addition to his “big bro” moment with the ladies, his reaction to Torres hotwiring the car was absolutely hilarious.

And he and Torres fought back when Dale attempted to beat them up and escape, along with his commentary then was top-notch.

Dale: You’re gonna pay for this you goddamn–
Atwater: Goddamn, what? Huh? Say it so you can make it easy for me!
Torres: Say it!
Atwater: Thought so.

He also slayed that moment when he was brutally honest about what awaited Dale when he got to a particular prison. Kevin didn’t give a damn during this installment, which was entertaining to watch.

It was Ruzek’s hour, but Atwater solidified his place as the scene-stealer.

Even after Beck put a hit out on Dale and sent Samantha and Ruzek to do it, Dale still wouldn’t turn on him. He even claimed he understood why Beck did it. And knowing that, it was apparent they’d never get the information they needed from him.

It wasn’t even surprising when he aggravated his injury and opted to bleed out rather than snitch and ruin “the plan.” Ryan Dorsey did a great job guest-starring in this loathsome role.

We saw more of Samantha’s vulnerability when she got that order to kill Dale. She was so shaken up and rattled. She couldn’t even bear to do it.

It was concerning when she showed up at the restaurant, just as Ruzek was about to go inside to get Mack. Her excuse about following him for a couple of days to see if he was legit didn’t explain how she knew he was there at that moment.

It was one of many moments that put you on edge, and we need this case to wrap up before anything bad happens.

Ruzek is sensing that, too. He’s getting antsy. You can tell he wants out of this undercover gig. He’d break cover it if it was for the best. Everything about this case is getting under his skin.

Interestingly, he’s not being a hothead, impulsive, or quick to judgment and action. He’s far more subdued and calculated with how they’re handling things, and he’s trying to be as delicate and cautious as possible.

However, it’s definitely taking a lot out of him, making you sympathize with him immensely on that front.

Fortunately, if you want to call it that, he could leverage Dale’s death to his advantage to hurry along the process.

He was trying to gain Richard’s trust for months, and if there was ever a time to call him out on keeping him in the dark and relegating him to Sam’s babysitter, it was after he “killed” Dale at Richard’s demand.

While we still need to find out what Richard is planning because of how closely he’s keeping it to the vest, Ruzek is in his best position yet in this undercover mission.

Now, he’s positioned himself as Richard’s “second” in a way, and that’s their best shot of preventing whatever mass casualty attack Richard is putting into place.

Richard wants Ruzek to be the one to keep Samantha on the path of their idealogy because she’s wavering, but it’s starting to feel like Ruzek may have an opening to flip Sam.

I have mixed feelings about it because even though Samantha has been operating out of fear, she’s also done many things that require consequences.

Voight: Are you good, Adam?
Ruzek: Yeah. Yeah. Do I really have a choice?

The case has a serious sense of foreboding at every turn, and it’s at a time when Ruzek is at his most content in his life.

That opener carrying over from Chicago PD Season 10 Episode 17, as Burzek had their “morning after,” was such a relief.

Ruzek himself admitted that it feels different this time. He and Burgess are finally where they need to be.

It was genuinely lovely to see them so happy and in bliss in that steamy opening scene of them in bed, fun, flirty, genuinely in love, and at peace with each other before life got in the way.

And if that wasn’t endearing enough, we got the absolute best, most long-awaited moment yet.

Mack finally called Ruzek “dad.” He’s considered her his daughter pretty much from the beginning. She’s become his heart that skips outside his chest, his bright light at the end of a dark day that keeps him grounded and hopeful.

Mack is everything to Adam, and we’ve seen that for ages. Sometimes, arguably, their dynamic has had a stronger depiction than Mack and Kim.

And while one could’ve envisioned a grand moment when Mack would finally utter those words, there’s something better, more realistic, and heartwarming about her casually saying it during the morning minutiae — just matter-of-factly on any old day like the others.

Adam: See you later.
Makayla: OK, Dad.

That moment was everything to Adam and absolutely nothing out of the norm for Mack because she’s just thought of Adam as her father for a while and never had to think twice about it.

Adam’s utter delight, the way his face lit up, was easily the sweetest, cutest moment of the hour.

It’s all the reason why Ruzek needs to bring this case to an end. One can’t imagine what it’s like for him under Richard’s thumb, listening to him threaten and hate a world that includes his sweet baby girl.

Taking down Beck once and for all makes the world a little safer place for Mack and Callum too.

Over to you, Chicago PD Fanatics.

What did you think of this hour? Are you excited about the Burzek family developments? Do you think Samantha is on the cusp of breaking away from her father for good?

Apple TV+ unveiled the trailer for the new, multilingual French-Japanese drama Drops of God.

Filmed in French, Japanese, and English, Drops of God stars Fleur Geffrier (Das Boot, Elle) and Tomohisa Yamashita (The Head, Tokyo Vice, Alice in Borderland), and is set in the world of gastronomy and fine wines.

The new eight-episode series from Legendary Entertainment, adapted from the New York Times bestselling Japanese manga series of the same name, will premiere on Friday, April 21, 2023 with two episodes followed by one episode weekly every Friday through June 2, 2023 on Apple TV+.

“Drops of God is set in the world of gastronomy and fine wines. Frenchman Alexandre Léger, creator of the famous Léger Wine Guide and emblematic figure in oenology, has just passed away at his home in Tokyo at the age of 60,” the logline reads.

“He leaves behind a daughter, Camille (Geffrier), who lives in Paris and hasn’t seen her father since her parents separated when she was nine years old.”

“When Camille flies to Tokyo and Léger’s will is read, she discovers that her father has left her an extraordinary wine collection – the greatest collection in the world according to the experts.”

“But, to claim the inheritance, Camille must compete with a brilliant young oenologist, Issei Tomine (Yamashita). Biological daughter versus spiritual son: the duel is about to begin.”

“There are three tests to break the tie, all related to wine tasting. The winner will take ownership of Léger’s empire, the loser will leave empty handed.”

“But how could Camille win such a duel? She knows nothing about wine, and worse: she has never drunk a single drop.”

He is set to play “Henry Muck, the CEO and Founder of Lumi, an exciting green tech energy company that’s about to go public.”

News of Harington’s return to HBO comes months after reports emerged that he was prepping a Game of Thrones sequel.

Days of Our Lives Round Table: Marlena Comes Home!

Much to Kayla’s dismay, Bo decided he wanted to be a Kiriakis instead of a Brady.

Our TV Fanatics, Jack and Christine, are joined by DoolFan4Life from My Hourglass, a Days of Our Lives fan forum, to debate Bo wanting to reclaim his Kiriakis side, Marlena’s homecoming, if they want more or less of Rachel, and more!

Plus, which couples are we rooting for the most? Read on to find out…

Days Of Our Lives Round Table 1-27-15

What do you think of Bo wanting to reclaim his Kiriakis roots over his Brady history?

DoolFan4Life: I actually don’t mind it. It is a bit of a change from the usual brainwashed story, and it offers a lot of nice flashbacks with Victor as well. It’s a nice bit of history for new viewers.

Having said this, I don’t want it to drag on too long, but I don’t mind exploring it for a while.

Jack: This is an interesting aspect of Bo’s history and personality that has never been explored. I don’t know if this is because of Megan’s influence or how Bo really feels, but either way, I’m enjoying this story.

However, I hope that in the end, Bo decides to be a good person. I don’t like him being violent toward the people he loves.

I suspect that John Aniston was still alive when this story was written, but this story also underscores the great loss we suffered when he passed away. Some Bo/Victor scenes would have been a wonderful addition to this story. I also feel like now it serves as an additional tribute to Victor.

Christine: I love this storyline! I remember when Bo first learned Victor was his father and the amount of angst that caused. I’ve always been intrigued by Victor and Bo’s relationship, so I’m thrilled it’s being revisited from this angle.

Unfortunately, it really drives home what a loss John Aniston’s death is to the show. This could have been an amazing story, but I do believe that given the right material, Peter Reckell will do a great job with it, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Do you agree with Kayla’s assessment that Victor’s heart is ice cold?

DoolFan4Life: Yes and no. I agree with it in terms of Kayla’s history with Victor, so it is how her character would feel about him. But as a viewer who has seen the many sides and layers of Victor, that’s where I say no.

To be fair, they are going on about this youth serum, and Victor was cold and ruthless when he was in his youth.

Jack: I feel like Kayla’s opinion of Victor is outdated. Forty years ago, he was a stone-cold villain who messed with her family despite his love for Caroline, but we haven’t seen THAT Victor in ages.

For the most part, Victor mellowed toward the end of his life. He was much less ruthless after he married Maggie, though he did still have his evil side that came out every now and then.

Christine: Victor ran a crime syndicate and could be ruthless, especially decades ago. But Kayla made it sound like he was incapable of love, and his history proves that wasn’t true.

Victor adored Isabella. Caroline was the love of his life before he married Maggie, who is the one woman he honestly tried to change for. And although Victor could be critical, he would move mountains for his children and grandchildren.

Victor was complicated, but to say his heart was ice cold was Kayla’s myopic version of the man.

How did you rate Marlena’s homecoming with John and her children?

DoolFan4Life: In a word, barf. I’m over Marlena and her endless kidnappings and reunions. It’s a waste of airtime, and I would prefer to know what really happened to Kate.

Jack: I find it strange that anyone wonders how she can be back from the dead after all the other magic resurrections. Also, if Marlena can magically be alive again, why assume that Kate’s “death” is permanent?

I liked Marlena and John’s reunion, but I agreed with Marlena that it was time for Eric and Belle to stop fighting. That was obnoxious and unnecessary, even if Eric is being ridiculous when it comes to Sloan.

Christine: My favorite part was how happy John was to have his wife back. I also appreciated that Belle asked if Sami had been told, and John confirmed he called her.

Belle and Eric’s fight was tedious. Eric is a grown man. If he wants to hook up with Sloan, that’s his business and not Belle’s. The best part of the fight was when John whistled to break it up like they were a couple of small children, which is what they were acting like.

Did Sloan trash Paulina’s office? If not Sloan, then who?

DoolFan4Life: She’s the most obvious answer, so probably not. I don’t know who it could be, but I wonder if it’s someone who heard her threaten that she didn’t need the court for revenge and is trying to set her up?

Jack: Sloan is the most logical suspect, but the amount of noise Paulina is making about it being Sloan means it’s likely someone else.

I can’t think of who unless TR is also back from the dead. Nobody currently on canvas has any reason to mess with Paulina unless it’s someone trying to frame Sloan, who has plenty of enemies.

But that threatening note seemed personal, like someone was angry at Paulina about something.

Christine: I keep wondering if it could be Talia since she’s the newest person in town, but I don’t know what her motive would be.

But since Paulina won’t stop screaming about it being Sloan despite the lack of proof, I’m taking that as confirmation that it must be someone else.

How do you feel about Rachel as part of the Kristen/Brady/Chloe storyline? Is she an entertaining addition or an intolerable brat?

DoolFan4Life: I feel like she is a total brat, and everything Chloe said about her was bang on. However, her character is written perfectly as Kristin and Brady’s daughter.

It’s an interesting wild card, and I am really hoping it leads to a Brady and Chloe breakup.

Jack: Ugh, she is such a brat. She’s not an entertaining brat, either. When Ciara was little, her snarky responses were often amusing, but Rachel is just obnoxious, and I can’t stand the way Brady caters to her feelings and doesn’t do anything real about disciplining her when she acts up.

Christine: I love Rachel! She has Kristen’s intelligence, sneakiness, and sharp tongue. Brady has indulged her so much that she knows she’s likely to get what she wants as long as she continues to push and manipulate.

Rachel is definitely a brat, but she’s also the most interesting kid in Salem, and I’m enjoying her as she causes havoc for Brady.

Gwen and Alex are hooking up regularly. Xander was looking out for Chloe, and the two former enemies hugged. What are your thoughts on these possible new pairings?

DoolFan4Life: Gwen is a character I don’t see a point in. As for Chloe and Xander, I was pleasantly surprised that they had more chemistry than Chloe and Brady.

It might be a romance to try on for a bit. I love Xander and Sarah and Chloe with Philip, but if Sarah and Philip aren’t coming back anytime soon, why not?

Jack: I couldn’t care less about Gwen and Alex. They can have as much sex as they want, but can they please do it off-screen? I’d love it if they took a romantic vacation and didn’t come back for a few months, if ever.

I don’t think Xander and Chloe are going to hook up romantically. This is all to create problems for Brady and Chloe when Leo makes that seemingly not-innocent photo of their hug public.

Christine: I don’t love or hate Gwen and Alex. For now, I’m willing to give them a chance to capture my attention. At least they’re both honest about only wanting sex as a distraction from their current romantic losses.

Xander and Chloe’s truce was surprising. I don’t believe it’s s good match for Chloe, but at this point, I don’t know who is. Considering the best thing about Brady and Chloe is his bratty child, that’s not a good sign.

Is there a couple you are truly rooting for on Days right now?

DoolFan4Life: I’ll always root for Bo and Hope. I know when they reunite, it’s going to be messy because he’s brainwashed, and she’s now involved with Harris. I just don’t want that to drag on because they are my favorite couple.

Jack: I’d like whatever’s gotten into Bo to get out of his system when he sees Hope, though I also like her with Harris.

I’d love for Paul and Andrew to make it work this time, too.

Christine: I’d love to see the show invest in EJ and Nicole. They have the possibility of making a great power couple, but I worry the plan is to get Nicole back with Eric and EJ back with Sami.

I’m hoping Chanel and Johnny make their way back together. Considering they only broke up due to the devil, I’d like to see their love story get a real chance.

What disappointed you the most this week in Salem?

DoolFan4Life: I’m disappointed that we haven’t seen what actually happened to Kate. I really don’t believe she’s dead and that John, Steve, and Marlena didn’t even search for her body.

I also hate the way Megan kept calling Hope “Frowny Face” That was actually Nicole’s nickname for her that she used to say to Aiden. It was lame then, and it’s lame now. The writers need fresher material.

Most of all, I’m disappointed in all things Stefan. I hate that they are dumbing down EJ and Nicole just to prop him up, and above all, I’m disgusted he’s still on my screen.

Someone needs to kill him already and make sure he’s not river dead, then be given a reward for ridding us of his disgusting character.

Jack: Why did Chloe lie to Brady about why she was worried about Leo’s column? This non-issue has taken up way too much screen time recently.

The idea is ludicrous that Brady would never forgive Chloe for saying that Kristen was turning Rachel into a monster like her! He thinks the same thing and wants to get Kristen out of Rachel’s head!

Besides, if their relationship can’t survive Leo printing one off-hand comment in a gossip column, then there isn’t much there, to begin with.

Also, the whole premise of six-year-old Rachel taking an Uber to the prison unaccompanied and being allowed to see Kristen because she pretended to cry was beyond stupid. I know prison life is never realistic in Salem, but that was ridiculous even by Salem standards!

Christine: EJ and Nicole’s plan for Stefan and Gabi was just dumb. They’re both smart enough to know they’d have to let Stefan and Gabi get together a time or two to feel safe before springing the trap.

And why is Hope being so naive when it comes to Harris? She assumes that one ECT treatment has reversed years of brainwashing. When did she become this painfully stupid?

What was your favorite quote, scene, or storyline on this week’s Days of Our Lives?

DoolFan4Life: I loved seeing Kayla stand up to Bo. She was always one to put him in his place, and again their scenes provided great drama. There’s lots of history there, and the actors really knocked it out of the park with the sibling dynamic.

I also loved Xander’s talk with Maggie because they have such an endearing relationship

I also enjoyed watching Tripp dance around in his boxers…Just saying.

Jack: I love the Megan adventure/Bo stuff.

I also really liked Paulina and Talia’s scenes (except for Paulina putting her nose into Talia’s career choice, which was unnecessary.) I’ve often criticized Days of Our Lives for their inaccurate depictions of mental health issues, but this time they got it right.

I especially liked Talia reminding Paulina that there is no shame in seeking help and talking to her about the way Black women often take on too much on their own.

Christine: I loved Bo talking about Victor’s history. As difficult of a reminder as it was that John Aniston is gone, I love that they are still honoring the character in this way.

Now it’s your turn, Days fans. Was Kayla too hard on Victor? Is Sloan to blame for trashing Paulina’s office? And which couple are you rooting for? Hit that SHOW COMMENTS button to let us know.

Grey’s Anatomy Promo Sets Up Maggie’s Exit, but Will She Leave Seattle Alone?

Maggie Pierce’s time in Seattle is coming to a close.

That much we’ve known for two weeks now, but there has been no indication about how Kelly McCreary’s beloved Grey’s Anatomy character would depart.

Until now.

McCreary’s final episode is slated to air Thursday, April 13, but next week’s episode hints how Maggie’s arc will end.

We hear in a new trailer for the episode that the Heart Center in Chicago is interested in Maggie.

Teddy tells Amelia the news.

“Why didn’t you tell me about a job offer?” Amelia says to her sister.

We don’t get any indication of whether Maggie accepts the job offer and, of course, whether Winston will accompany her.

“I already moved across the country for you once,” He says in the clip.

If you watch Grey’s Anatomy online, you know Maggie and Winston’s relationship has been in tatters lately.

Their relationship was a whirlwind, so maybe getting married so soon wasn’t the best idea.

Either way, the series will suffer a big loss with McCreary’s departure.

“After nine seasons, I am saying goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Grey Sloan family,” McCreary said in a statement to Deadline earlier this month.

“It has been a tremendous honor to be a part of such a legendary television institution as Grey’s Anatomy.”

“I will always be grateful to Shonda Rhimes, Krista Vernoff, and ABC for the opportunity, and to the incredible fans for their passionate support.”

The star added, “To spend nine years exploring a character inside and out, while reaching a global audience with impactful stories, is a rare gift.”

“It has afforded me an opportunity to collaborate with, learn from, and be inspired by countless brilliant artists both in front of and behind the camera.”

“Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life and I leave with profound gratitude for every step of this journey,” the actress concluded.

“I am excited for this next chapter, and what the future holds.”

Check out the trailer below for your first look at Maggie’s final arc kicking into high gear.

The end of EZ’s journey is in sight.

FX announced on Thursday that Mayans M.C. Season 5 will premiere on Wednesday, May 24, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on FX.

As always, episodes will be available the next day on Hulu.

The premiere will include the first two episodes of the 10-episode final season, with one new episode each following week.

The series will be available on Star+ in Latin America and Disney+ under the Star banner in all other territories.

“Mayans M.C. follows the life of Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (JD Pardo), president of the Mayans M.C. charter on the Cali/Mexi border,” the logline teases.

“Once a golden boy with the American Dream in his grasp, EZ has now risen to lead his brother Angel (Clayton Cardenas) and the Santo Padre M.C. in a bloody war against their rival Sons of Anarchy.”

JR Bourne, Danny Pino, Carla Baratta, Michael Irby, Emilio Rivera, Sarah Bolger, Frankie Loyal, Joseph Lucero, Vincent Vargas, Gino Vento, Emily Tosta, and Vanessa Giselle also star in Mayans M.C.

Mayans M.C. was co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James. The series is executive produced by James and Sutter.

The series is produced by 20th Television and FX Productions.

News broke that the series would wrap up in January, leading to questions about whether fans are in for a conclusive ending.

Thankfully, J.D. Pardo quelled those fears on social media in response to fans, revealing that the decision to end the show was creative-driven.

Sometimes, shows naturally come to an end, and truthfully, many more shows should follow suit.

It’s always best to go out when fans still want more.

Thankfully, Mayans M.C. has remained creatively strong throughout, and there will be many questions as we head into the final episodes.
