It looks like Zac isn’t coming back to The CW for a second season — or even the rest of his show’s first. The smallest broadcast network has dropped Down to Earth with Zac Efron show after just two airings.
A documentary series, the Down to Earth with Zac Efron TV show stars actor Zac Efron and wellness expert Darin Olien. The duo travels the world searching for the secrets to good health, a long life, and a higher level of eco-consciousness. Through the adventure and laughs, this travelogue, food odyssey, and eco-warrior series takes the star out of his comfort zone and into the world’s far corners. In the first season, locations include Costa Rica, France, Iceland, Iquitos, Lima, London, Puerto Rico, and Sardinia.
Airing on Tuesday nights, the two episodes of the first season of Down to Earth with Zac Efron averaged a 0.04 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 269,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). It was a middle-of-the-road performer compared to the network’s other summer shows.
The first season was released on Netflix three years ago and on Vice this past spring. The CW’s new management has decided to focus on keeping costs down by airing inexpensive and acquired programming.
Since the network doesn’t own its shows, ratings and ad revenue are very important to the bottom line. As a result, the execs apparently aren’t shy about pulling shows that aren’t measuring up. The CW has also pulled acquired shows Fantastic Friends and Barons in the past month. The latter series’ final episodes were released online, and it seems likely that the remaining installments of Down to Earth will end up there too.
For the immediate future, reruns of Penn & Teller: Fool Us will fill the Mondays at 8 PM timeslot.
What do you think? Have you enjoyed watching the Down to Earth with Zac Efron series on The CW? Are you disappointed that the network has cancelled its future airings?

Actor-comedian Sarah Silverman is confused about the large volume of projects that have been granted interim agreements by SAG-AFTRA to film during the actors strike. And she is not alone.
“I feel f—ing pissed off, and I know I just must not be understanding something. There are like 40 movies being made right now,” Silverman said in a video posted on Instagram Thursday night. “When SAG joined the strike, it’s, ‘Movie stars aren’t making movies for you anymore, now what are you going to do?’ Well, they’re making movies. What the f*ck?”
Deadline’s list, which is being updated daily, features 102 film and TV titles — the vast majority of them movies — that have received permission to shoot since the SAG-AFTRA work stoppage began on July 14, with the casts featuring a number of Oscar winners.
“Movie stars are making movies because they’re ‘independent’ movies, and SAG is allowing it because if they do sell it to streaming, it has to be because streaming is abiding by all the things we’re asking for,” Silverman said. “That’s just working. The strike ends when they come to the table and we make a deal in agreement.”
Siloverman revealed that she too has been offered an indie movie to film during the strike but refused to do it. She said some of her friends started to accept these offers.
“Please, explain to me why I shouldn’t be angry, because people are making real-deal sacrifices,” she said. “People, writers, actors, crew people, all these people are sacrificing their livelihood for this cause. It’s called union strong, where we are all together. And when SAG joined the strike, we should see every movie star out there striking along, because you have insurance because of your union and you get residuals because of your union. All of these things you get because of your union and you can’t stand with your union?”
She scolded both the actors who sign on for the movies with interim agreements and SAG-AFTRA for granting the agreements, which she thinks could “exponentially prolong” the strike.
“I don’t know if I’m mad at these movie stars making these indie movies that are obviously going to go to streaming” or am I mad at SAG for making this interim deal for these indie movies. What the f*ck?”
Deadline has reached out to SAG-AFTRA for comment.
The large number of waivers for movie and TV productions, which is growing daily, is raising eyebrows, especially since a few of the projects have ties to struck companies that are members of the AMPTP.
Some of the high-profile projects that have received interim agreement so far include Apple TV+’s series Tehran; spy drama series The Gray House, produced by Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, which is being distributed internationally by Paramount Global; New Line pickup The Watchers from Ishana Night Shyamalan; Glenn Close’s The Summer Book; Viola Davis’ MRC action thriller G20, which will be distributed by Amazon, as well as A24 titles Mother Mary and Dreams of a Unicorne.
Toosii thinks Nicki Minaj was totally snubbed in Netflix’s female rapper documentary trailer, and says you don’t have to be a woman to appreciate her greatness … he literally grew up on her music!!!
We caught the “Favorite Song” rapper out in Hollywood, and he weighed in on the uproar over the forthcoming “Ladies First” … which touted virtually every prominent rapper except for Nicki (and surprisingly Missy Elliott) in the preview scenes.
Toosii proudly reps Gen Z and remembers Nicki being the only woman in hip hop popping when he was a kid — a sentiment J. Cole literally just shared with Kevin Hart.
Lil Baby also agrees and recently proclaimed Nicki to be the G.O.A.T. when it comes to female rappers, as her accolades speak for themselves.
Waiting for your permission to load TikTok Post.
Sources close to the production of “Ladies First” relayed to us that Nicki does indeed appear in the 4-part docuseries, but Toosii says producers screwed themselves by leaving her out of the trailer. He says they should be so honored to have the queen.
Toosii’s currently trotting the globe for his Naujour Tour, but if Nicki just so happens to tap in for a collab, we’re sure he’ll find the time to make it happen!!!

The CW is expanding its live sports portfolio with the NASCAR Xfinity Series, composed mainly of young up-and-coming drivers. The network will become the exclusive home to the series beginning in 2025 and extending through the 2031 racing season.
Under the deal, CW will broadcast 33 live NASCAR Xfinity Series races annually, along with practice and qualifying events each weekend. Starting in 2025, for the first time in series history, every NASCAR Xfinity Series race will be available on free, over-the-air broadcast television with additional content available through The CW’s digital platforms. All NASCAR Xfinity Series races and ancillary content will be fully produced by the Emmy-winning NASCAR Productions group, in close collaboration with The CW Network.
The network has been expanding its sports programming, first signaling interest with 100 Days To Indy docuseries, which premiered earlier this year, as well as the deal with Saudi-backed LIV Golf League, the Atlantic Coast Conference for live events, and airing of the Atlantic Coast Conference college football and basketball games through 2026-27.
“Landing the NASCAR Xfinity Series is a game changer for The CW and our CW Sports division and represents another important building block in our programming strategy,” said Dennis Miller, President of The CW. “Live sports are the most watched television content and with The CW’s national reach, moving NASCAR Xfinity Series to The CW will transform and elevate the viewing experience for the series and its fans. The CW has quickly become a destination for sports, as the NASCAR Xfinity Series joins our growing slate of sports programming, including Inside The NFL, ACC college football and basketball, LIV Golf, and the motorsports documentary series 100 Days To Indy. Beginning in 2025, The CW will have 48 weekends per year of live sports programming. With ubiquitous distribution across one of the nation’s five major broadcast networks, NASCAR Xfinity Series races on The CW will deliver more access for fans and far more revenue opportunities for The CW and its affiliates.”
“CW’s leadership shared a compelling vision for cultivating the next generation of NASCAR talent by bringing the NASCAR Xfinity Series exclusively to broadcast television and we are thrilled for the opportunity to partner with them,” added Brian Herbst, SVP, Media and Productions for NASCAR. “With more than one million viewers tuning in each week to see NASCAR’s future stars battle some of its biggest names at our most legendary tracks, NASCAR Xfinity Series consistently delivers the moments that excite current fans and create new fans of our great sport.”
The world of “Barbie” is mourning the death of Bill Cunningham, the original voice of the famous Ken doll in the 1960s.
Cunningham died at his L.A. home on July 15, but news of his passing first surfaced Thursday in a report published by Deadline. His cause of death was not disclosed.
CESD Talent Agency, which Cunningham co-founded, issued a statement praising Bill as being “among the great innovators and gentlemen of the talent representation business.”
The company also noted Bill’s major contributions in his chosen field and described him as a “gregarious, classy man who made a positive impact on all those he represented and employed.”
Bill began doing voice-overs after he returned from military service in World War II. He got his first break on NBC’s “Voices of Walter Schumann” and “The Tennessee Ernie Ford Show.” Then he sang on soundtracks for Hollywood movies produced by Fox, Paramount and Warner Bros.
His career skyrocketed in 1961 when he was tapped to be the voice of Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken, after the Mattel toy company created the iconic dolls.
The action-packed second season of “Invasion” picks up just months later with the aliens escalating their attacks in an all-out war against the humans. The trailer gives a suspenseful sneak peek into the new season, as aliens and destruction abound, answers are relentlessly pursued and the fight for the world’s survival continues.

Ariana Grande is dating a guy who plays SpongeBob SquarePants — but it ain’t the main one you’re thinking of … which is why the wife of the real SB is chirping up.
Fellow voice actor Jill Talley — who’s married to the man who’s been voicing SpongeBob on TV for years now — posted a clarification in response to an IG post from The Cut … which ran with a confusing headline about AG’s new boo, Ethan Slater.
Waiting for your permission to load the Instagram Media.
It reads, “Is Ariana Grande Dating Spongebob Now?” and it also features a shot of Ariana and Ethan — this of course after we broke the news that the ‘Wicked’ costars are together.
Naturally, The Cut’s implication here is technically accurate … but not totally clear in and of itself. Yes, Slater portrays a live-action version of SpongeBob on Broadway — a role for which he’s earned Tony noms. But he’s NOT the voice actor who’s been playing him forever now.
That’s something JT wanted to set the record straight on, commenting on The Cut’s post … “Hi everyone, I’m married to Tom Kenny (who voices SpongeBob on the TV show). He is not dating Ariana Grande. I don’t know if Ethan Slater (who played SpongeBob in the musical) is or isn’t dating Ariana Grande. However, they’re both adorable and I totally ship it.”
She added this on her own relationship … “Just wanted to set the record straight. P.S. as for me and Tom Kenny — we are celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary today.”
In other words … one dude shouldn’t be mistaken for the other — and for a minute, it sounds like they were. Good to know the OG SpongeBoy is faithful through and through.
Like we first told you … Ethan and Ariana have been dating each other for a few months now — making the timeline of things a little murky. We know she and Dalton Gomez had ended their relationship in January, but that they also gave it one last go in May during their 2-year anniversary. On the face of it, it seems like there might’ve been some overlap.
As for Ethan, he’s also still married … but we’re hearing he, too, is separated from his wife.
EXCLUSIVE: Sony Pictures Television is saying goodbye to long-serving international production operations boss Richard Parsons.
We hear the exec has chosen to step down after 12 years, with a source close to SPT saying the parting is “entirely amicable.” He will remain at Sony’s London based until the end of August.
Parsons had joined Sony in 2011 as Senior VP for Corporate Business and Legal Affairs, International Production and was promoted to an Executive VP of Operations position within the same team in 2018. His role will not be replaced.
He currently oversees all operational and commercial matters relating to SPT’s portfolio of production companies, which includes companies such as His Dark Materials maker Bad Wolf, The Crown producer Left Bank Pictures, Sex Education firm Eleven, Blueprint Television, Fable Pictures, Eleventh Hour Films, and on the non-scripted side, Stellify Media and Whisper.
He is also responsible for assessing new deals including acquisitions, investments and first-look deals.
He sat on the board of several SPT indies but is also stepping down from these. There won’t be any further impact on Sony’s suite of production companies as a result, we hear.
Prior to Sony he worked at indie advisor Wiggin LLC, Shine Group and BBC Worldwide (now BBC Studios), working to establish joint ventures and production companies in the UK, France, Germany, Argentina, Canada, India, Russia and Australia at the latter.
Willa sees Raylan’s decision as backstabbing when he’s doing what a father needs to do. Sweety is conflicted but desperate about turning over the weapon. Sandy’s affection for Skender is purely transactional in light of her relationship with Clement, but even that is negotiable.
As is true with most dangerous options, it is not an easy choice, but it usually looks to be the only one.
And then there’s Carolyn Wilder, our acolyte of Lady Justice.
She knows the Law doesn’t always mete out true justice, but it’s the system she’s chosen to work within.
So can she support Sweety in his choice while representing Clement and still be considered pristine in the eyes of the law? Will this be as much of an obstacle to her bid for a judge’s position as her ex-husband’s tax lien?
She and Raylan recognize in each other a desire for Clement to meet with appropriate consequences, but they diverge on the means to that end.
I know that’s your kid. You’re angry. I get it. I’d be angry too. But everybody doesn’t get to be angry the way you do.
Carolyn
I appreciate the facets of Carolyn we’re seeing. She’s a brilliant litigator in court, passionate in her defense of her client.
Away from her legal opponents, she’s not afraid to call out her clients for bad behavior and foolish choices.
Carolyn: Messing with a U.S. Marshall’s daughter. I don’t know what you think you’re doing. Clement: What am I doing? Whatever I want.
On Justified: City Primeval Season 1 Episode 2, she implies to Raylan that she recognizes the level of crazy Clement Mansell operates at. Here, we see her stand her ground when he’d push into her life and space outside office hours.
Knowing what he’s capable of and not panicking or caving when facing him on her own speaks volumes about what she’s seen and done to get where she is.
As does her kindness towards Willa. She sees who the vulnerable are. She doesn’t let her feelings towards… say, their dad affect the respect with which she speaks and acts toward them.
Willa: Did you like the drink he sent you at the bar? Carolyn: Oh, that was you. The sparkler was a nice touch. Thank you. Willa: He’s not bad for a white guy.
It shows her heart isn’t as steely as her spine is, which means she’s still vulnerable if she’s not careful.
Meanwhile, Raylan realizes Willa’s been right all along in her assessment of where this adventure’s been going for the two of them.
Willa: I wish you’d just say it. Raylan: What are we talking about now? Willa: I got in the way and you got in trouble and it woulda been so much easier if I weren’t around.
It has to be galling to a marshall known for his decisive — if questionable — actions that he is completely stymied by a fifteen-year-old.
The writers have been subtle — or I just haven’t been paying attention until now — but they’ve been filling in Willa’s character outline with how Raylan might’ve been at her age.
She’s inherited his quick fists and his ability to justify the need for violent resolutions.
Willa: C’mon, Dad, I don’t want to do this. Raylan: I’m guessing you’ll think about that next time you consider punching a girl in the face. Willa: I barely touched her! Raylan: You broke her nose. Willa: She deserved it. Raylan: That’s not the point.
While she didn’t seem to cotton onto Clement‘s intentions, she kept calm when Tyrone and buddy ran her and her dad off the road. She appeared completely confident Raylan would have no issues dealing with them.
She’s keenly observant of how things unfold at the police station and how Carolyn intrigues her dad.
As his kid, she’s stuck in a situation she sees no way out of.
As her dad but also a US Marshall, Raylan’s just as stuck.
And knowing she’s just as stubborn and proud as he is, he recognizes what it costs her to offer to go to Graceland if he’ll only let her stay with him.
Raylan: It’s hard, Willa. Willa: What’s hard? Your life? You do whatever you want. Raylan: You’re my life. Willa: But am I? Like, am I even in it? Raylan: To even hear you say that! Willa: How do you think it feels to ask?
Of all the “betrayers” presented, Raylan probably regrets his actions most, despite being arguably the most justifiable.
I have a terrible feeling about Sweety and that gun. Correction: many terrible feelings.
With the episode titled “Backstabbers,” one naturally sees turncoats everywhere.
I don’t like that he showed the gun to his staff member and hid it in such an accessible space.
I don’t like how sure Carolyn is that she can get him immunity through her connections at the prosecutors’ office.
I REALLY don’t like that Bryl told Clement that Sandy stopped at Sweety’s after going to the river.
And after the debacle that was Bryl and Robinson tailing Clement and Skender, I can only assume the writers thought the white hats needed a Dewey Crowe on their side this time out.
While it might’ve gone against Clement’s inclination to kill Sweety back in 2017 due to his connection with many musical greats, I cannot see Clement hesitating to retaliate if he learns that Sweety’s struck a deal with the prosecutors to turn over the gun.
Clement: You keep them all loaded? Skender: What use is unloaded gun?
Of course, he’s not lacking for weaponry now. We didn’t actually see Skender’s body when Maureen alerts Raylan that there’d been damage, but I doubt the Albanian love dope survived the night.
And with his entire stash of loaded collectors’ guns just sitting there, Clements probably got some visions of gunslinging his way to infamy dancing in his head.
That leaves Sandy on the board as a piece that may play for either side.
She’s already distanced herself slightly by not throwing the gun away as directed. She takes another step by lying to Clement about it.
With the judge’s killing, she insisted he not tell her about it in some sort of strategy of plausible deniability.
But she’s not stupid.
If Skender’s as dead as we think he is, she’s now a witness and an accomplice to murder.
And if her memory is sharp enough to remember where Clement said he hid the gun at Sweety’s, she will remember how he wouldn’t let her use the bagel toaster and wonder what he is hiding in there.
One must wonder how Clement plans to retrieve the judge’s notebook since that penthouse will probably be off-limits to him and Sandy after the Skender incident.
Also, how did Maureen’s team miss finding it when they searched the place?
If anything, it’s an implicit commentary on systemic racism in policing if you look at how Bryl’s crew took Sweety’s place apart. (And also didn’t find the evidence they were looking for.)
With so many players making moves, the momentum is building toward potentially tragic and assuredly intense collisions.
Somewhat like a cop car getting sideswiped when running a red in pursuit of a Range Rover it’s trying to tail. Seriously, that just can’t be “how sh*t gets done in Detroit.”
Finally, riddle me this: How do you draw a line between Clement and Judge Guy when the murder was a random road rage incident?
I imagine the parkade surveillance footage might be the only thing that might connect the dots for the team.
Over to you, Fanatics. How’s this new, mellower, less-trigger-happy Raylan sitting with you? Was sending Willa away his only choice? With his luck, how long will she stay out of the picture?
What’s your take on Carolyn? Can she lean in on justice without overstepping the law?
And how will Clement and Sandy ride out the Skender situation? How far will pawning that ring get them?
