Love Island: Sarah Hyland to Host Peacock Revamp

It turns out, Peacock is switching everything up when it comes to Love Island.

The fourth season of the hit dating format will air its first season on the streaming service, beginning July 19, with six episodes planned per week.

With a new home, a new filming location, and even a new narrator, many questioned whether Arielle Vandenberg would return as host.

We now have our answer…

Peacock revealed Thursday that Modern Family star Sarah Hyland will be hosting the new season.

It is a bit of a shocker when you consider how well Vandenberg was received, but it does seem like Peacock wants to effectively make a new show.

The move to streaming will result in a steamier iteration of the format, according to the streaming service.

Hyland is best known for her starring role as Haley Dunphy on Golden Globe and 5-consecutive Emmy-award winning hit ABC comedy series Modern Family.

Hyland has been working in film and television since she was four years old. She made her debut in Howard Stern’s Private Parts, and at the age of eight landed the role of Molly in ABC’s Annie.

Hyland will also be starring in Peacock’s highly-anticipated upcoming comedy series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, which is set to launch on November 23.

Peacock poached Love Island from CBS in a highly competitive situation, ordering two seasons for its streaming service.

It was announced earlier this month that narrator of the original UK series, Iain Stirling, would be lending his voice to the revamp.

“The moment the decision was made to bring an all-new version of LOVE ISLAND to Peacock, we knew we had to get Iain on board,” said Jenny Groom, EVP Entertainment Unscripted Content, NBCUniversal.

Groom continued, “Iain embodies everything fans love about the show – humor, irreverence and cheeky fun. LOVE ISLAND would not be the same without him.”

The new series will not be shot abroad. Instead, the singles will be somewhere on the California coast.

Love Island Season 2 shot in Vegas due to the pandemic, and it was arguably the best season of the series, so we’re sure the California coast will be just fine.

Langham will recur as Melville Phipps, a Los Angeles native and attorney for a very wealthy oil baroness. He works well under women and acts as a caretaker when necessary.

Here’s the logline for season 2 of the drama that stars Matthew Rhys in the title role: Months after the end of the Dodson trial, Perry’s (Matthew Rhys) moved off the farm, ditched the milk truck, he’s even traded his leather jacket for a pressed suit. It’s the worst year of the Depression, and Perry and Della (Juliet Rylance) have set the firm on a safer path pursuing civil cases instead of the tumultuous work that criminal cases entail. Unfortunately, there isn’t much work for Paul (Chris Chalk) in wills and contracts, so he’s been out on his own. An open-and-closed case overtakes the city of Los Angeles, and Perry’s pursuit of justice reveals that not everything is always as it seems.

Q-Force: Cancelled, No Season Two for Adult Animated Series on Netflix

Q-Force TV show on Netflix: canceled, no season 2

(Netflix)

This team of spies has been retired. According to one of the writers and actors on Q-Force, the Netflix series has been cancelled so viewers won’t be seeing a second season.

An adult animated series, the Q-Force TV show stars Sean Hayes, Gary Cole, David Harbour, Patti Harrison, Laurie Metcalf, Matt Rogers, Wanda Sykes, and Gabe Liedman. Steve Maryweather (Hayes), AKA Agent Mary, was once the Golden Boy of the American Intelligence Agency (AIA) — until he came out as gay. Unable to fire him, the Agency sent him off to West Hollywood, to disappear into obscurity. Instead, Mary assembles a misfit squad of LGBTQ+ geniuses. Joining forces with the expert mechanic Deb (Sykes), master of drag and disguise Twink (Rogers), and hacker Stat (Harrison), together they’re Q-Force. But, after a decade of waiting for their first official mission from The AIA, Mary becomes hell-bent on proving himself to the Agency that turned its back on him, and decides to go rogue with Q-Force. After finding their own case, and solving it on their own terms, they get the reluctant approval of The AIA, and are officially upgraded to Active Secret Agents in the field. But, that approval comes with one major caveat — they must put up with a new member of the squad: straight-guy Agent Buck (Harbour).

The first season of 10 episodes debuted in September 2020 on Netflix and there hadn’t been any word on plans for a second season. The streaming service typically makes a decision on a show’s fate within a month or so of a season’s release. No news often means bad news.

Rogers recently guest-hosted on the Attitudes! podcast and revealed that Q-Force had been cancelled. “The people who loved it, really loved it. The good news is that it will always be on Netflix. It did not get a second season but, I feel like the fact is that it is out there, and … it’s really close to my heart.”

What do you think? Have you enjoyed watching the Q-Force TV series on Netflix? Are you disappointed that it’s been cancelled? Would you have checked out a second season?

Stranger Things Star Reveals How Frustration Fueled Shocking Billy and Max Scene

Stranger Things Season 4 premiered a month ago, and the series remains one of the most-talked-about shows on the air.

Ahead of the final two episodes dropping on Netflix, Sadie Sink opened up about shooting an emotional scene with Dacre Montgomery.

On-screen, the scene looked like Montgomery and Sink shot it together, but thanks to travel restrictions, it wasn’t possible.

“That was definitely the most challenging [scene] I think I’ve ever had to do on Stranger Things, just because so much of Max and Billy’s relationship comes from the onscreen chemistry that me and Dacre have,” Sink told The Hollywood Reporter.

“Being used to working with him and reading with him for two seasons now, and then having to do a really important scene with him but not have him there, was definitely very tricky.”

“I definitely did get a little frustrated when I was on set, but I think I kind of channeled it into the scene as much as I could and ended up getting, I think, a pretty good result – and obviously, the visual effects team really stepped in and made it look as realistic as possible,” the star teased.

Montgomery previously opened up about the process of shooting the scene.

The scene came out great and showed the immense talent associated with the Netflix hit.

Looking ahead, we have around four hours of Stranger Things Season 4 left as the penultimate episode spans 90 minutes, with the finale clocking in at over 150.

Will the gang be able to take down Vecna?

That’s the big question!

Sink also aired her thoughts on Vecna as the villain and how the show made him look realistic.

“I think two things come into play when it comes to the believability of Vecna,” Sink said.

“The first just being the prosthetics and having it be mostly practical effects was really helpful,” she said.

“We’re so used to working with stunt guys and stunt-women in green bodies and tennis balls in their hands, or something like that, so having Jamie [Campbell Bower] actually there was very helpful because he was genuinely just horrifying,” she added.

“It’s just not normal what you’re looking at, so you’re kind of tricking your mind in a way, and it makes stepping into Max’s shoes that much easier.”

Stranger Things is already renewed for a fifth — and final — season, but a spinoff is planned.

What are your thoughts on how that scene came together?

Could you tell the stars were not on the same set?

Los Angeles Covid Cases Approach Highest Daily Total In 4 Months As Long Holiday Weekend Nears

Ahead of the July 4 weekend, Los Angeles County today reported 6,529 daily Covid infections, which is very nearly the highest total the county has seen since early February. Only the 7,209 recorded on May 31 is higher.

L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said earlier this week that daily infection numbers may be leveling out, but today’s count plus a test positivity rate that has very nearly doubled in just over two weeks would seem to indicate otherwise.

On Tuesday, June 14 L.A.’s test positivity was 6.5%. Today, the rate is 12.9%. That’s a massive jump for a number that is not only a percentage of total tests but also a 7-day average.

Meanwhile, the number of Covid-positive patients in Los Angeles County hospitals increased by 32 people to 779, according to the latest state figures. Of those patients, 77 were being treated in intensive care, up from 68 the previous day.

Ferrer told the Board of Supervisors Tuesday that while hospitals over the past week averaged 720 Covid patients per day, a 16% increase from the previous week, the rate of new admissions has actually gone down.

According to Ferrer, the county is currently averaging 6.6 new daily Covid admissions per 100,000 residents, down from 7.3 per 100,000 a week ago. It was the first decline in that rate in the past few weeks.

The rate is being closely watched, because if the county reaches 10 new daily admissions per 100,000 residents, it will move to the “high” virus activity category as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If the county stays in the high category for two consecutive weeks, officials will reimpose a mandatory indoor mask-wearing mandate.

Health officials had initially estimated that the county might reach the high category by the end of June, but with the pace of new admissions slowing, the estimate was pushed back last week to mid-July. On Tuesday, Ferrer said if the current pace holds, the county won’t reach the high category until the end of July.

There are two wild cards, however.

The first is the increased prevalence of the more-transmissible BA.5 and BA.4 Omicron variants, which are also thought to be better at evading the immunity conferred by vaccines and/or prior infections.

While the number of identified cases of each variant in Los Angeles is very small, so are the number of positive samples genomically sequenced to determine the causal Covid strain.

According to CDC data, BA.5 and BA.4 now represent the majority of new cases seen last week across the U.S. and also more specifically in the three-state region comprised of California, Arizona and Nevada.

The second wild card is the upcoming holiday weekend.

In a statement Tuesday afternoon, Ferrer urged residents to exercise caution against virus spread over the Fourth of July, mainly by getting vaccinated.

“Residents can also reduce the chance of getting or spreading Covid-19 by wearing a mask and doing an at-home test before indoor gatherings and events,” she said. “If someone does test positive or feel sick, they should stay away from others to prevent infecting others. As we celebrate this weekend, let’s make an effort to take actions that protect our friends, family members, and co-workers who may be at elevated risk.”
